asmallmammal
Hey everyone, Did some searching on google and on the forums looking for this info but haven't found it yet. Apparently it's time to look into changing my rear brake pads and rotors (shop said they're looking worn and rotors have some grooves forming, though I have not looked myself as I'm sitting in their waiting area still) and I'm just wondering if it's a different process because of the whole hybrid thing. I've got a 2014 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid, around 54k miles, and I've changed lots of pads and rotors before. So if there aren't any crazy different things for the hybrid system, I'd rather just buy parts and do the install myself, vs paying $600 to the dealer or whatever they want to charge. Can anyone confirm that the process for rear pads/rotors is the same on the hybrid as it would be for any other disc brake? Or if it is different, can someone point me to a DIY that I can look at? Thanks!
R2D2
Watching this thread, my 2014 MKZh has 65k on the speedo but last check report (last week) from Lincoln was still in the green for everything
asmallmammal
So I did some more researching and other hybrids need to be put into "maintenance mode" to allow the calipers to be retracted, and it seems be related to having an electronic parking brake. people recommend either disconnecting the battery or keeping your key fob far away from the vehicle when you do the brakes, because apparently the car knows when you're approaching based on proximity of the key fob and it stats to prime the brake system. if you're working on the brakes and the system tries to prime itself (because the key fob is close) it can push the solenoid out and spill fluid everywhere and now you've got a giant pain to clean up. the question remains, is the "special computer" the dealer talked to me about because my car is a hybrid, or because it has an electronic parking brake? it seems like if it's just associated with the electronic parking brake, then i can manually put the car into maintenance mode myself, do the brake job per usual, take the car out of maintenance mode and we're all done. the dealer said the computer was needed to retract the pistons, but it seems like the maintenance mode does this too. any advice/input would be greatly appreciated! How much mileage does your 2016 have? I'm rapidly approaching 80K and brakes have not needed any service yet. ?

rubyinla
It's late, but maybe it'll be of interest to someone else. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/lincoln,2018,mkz,2.0l+l4+electric/gas,3441365,brake+&+wheel+hub,rotor+&+brake+pad+kit,13824
R2D2
I only said wow because I would expect them to last longer on a hybrid, you may have other issues. I'm at 78k and still no need for a brake service..... Yet ?
