  1. robertlane: Please see my other entry: "BEWARE - POWER TRUNK OWNERS". Ford Motors, I mean 'Lincoln Motors' wont budge either. I have gone to the 'Consumer Protection Agency' at the state level and I'm waiting for their mediation process. This issue is absolutely ridiculous! I know I should have bought a Lexus. I also have a Toyota Avalon. Any little problem that requires attention, the Toyota dealer bends backwards to repair it.
  2. Davisjl - Thank you for your inquiry. The car is still under warranty. I purchased it on 6/13. I agree with you "a defect is a defect...." . Why I'm the only one in this club with this issue is puzzling. Lincoln Motors and dealer says "it's common". I did tell them that "metal to metal rubbing that scrapes the paint off is not normal". Yes, I also do not understand.
  3. MKZs with power trunks have a design flaw. If you own a 2013-2015 MKZ with power trunk, your trunk lid (left side) will most likely tear the trunk molding causing metals to rub and paint to come off. Please see the pictures I have submitted in my other entry re: “TRUNK DESIGN FLAW?” Representatives from the "Lincoln Client Relationship Center" contacted me over the phone because of my written complaint to them regarding the trunk lid rubbing and tearing a rubber trunk molding which causes metals to rub scraping the paint off. They first contacted me and said they would send an "engineer" to look into this issue. A week later, they informed me that I "would not be happy to hear the results". The 'engineer' went to his local dealer and checked similar cars with the same issue and also consulted with his colleagues in charge of assembly. LINCOLN’S FINAL CONCLUSION: This occurs only in power trunk vehicles or as they put it, "many vehicles with power trunks have the same issue ." They denied my request to have the trunk realigned. They said that they hadn't received complaints about this issue and therefore NOTHING WOULD BE DONE about it. I made it clear to them that I was not a happy Lincoln owner and that I should not expect a $45,000+ vehicle to have metals rubbing paint off. I mentioned that this issue would have a negative effect on Lincoln's marketing efforts. I also mentioned that this car would look like a rusted Ford product from the 60's if nothing is done about it. They said that only vehicles with "power trunks" were affected. When I asked if they could 'unpower' my trunk, the representative said that I could discuss this with the dealer. I said this should be addressed at their level for all owners with power trunks. One can disable the power feature from the driver's seat, but it still uses power to close the lid. They said that they would keep me in mind and contact me if anything could be done in the future. Apparently they will not act unless they receive many complaints. I said I would use this venue to alert similar owners with this issue. I urge you to check your power trunk lid and send in your complaints. I would like to thank all of you who have entered your comments on my other entry, but another dealer will not solve the issue. What should be my next step? Your comments and suggestions are welcomed.
  4. UPDATE - Dealer will not budge and claims that all cars in their lot has the same issue. I sent a complaint letter to Lincoln Motors and I'm waiting for their response. Will keep you posted.
  5. IS THIS A TRUNK DESIGN FLAW? (MKZ 2013-2015) - I think my trunk issue is not unusual, but quite common. My Lincoln is a 2013 MKZ Hybrid w/power trunk (8200mi.) which I purchased in June, 2013. The left upper trunk lid tip rubs the rubber molding attached to the body upon closing and tears it. This rubber molding is supposed to guard the tip of the trunk lid against touching the car body. After two replaced rubber moldings, it continues to tear. The dealer even tried to glue it down and it still ripped. I first noticed it a year after ownership. When first taken to the dealer, they claimed that they had not seen this before. Today, they wrote on invoice: " CAUSE: REPLACE MOLDING TORN.--999A REPLACE TRUNK MOLDING - COMPARED TO LIKE VEHICLES - WORKING AS DESIGNED." The service rep. said that it happens on some cars and even showed me a 2015 in their showroom that did the same thing! Strange: At first, they never saw it before and now it is common and "WORKING AS DESIGNED". Is this a design flaw? I have requested to have the trunk lid adjusted, but they just said, "We'll contact Ford for a solution." When I got home today from the dealer and parked the car in the garage, I noticed that the trunk lid tip IS now scraping the paint OFF at contact point. The tear and damage is minor now, but I'm looking at 5+ years down the road or when the warranty expires and the metal starts to rust. Who is going to pay to repair it then? Are there similar situations like mine in this forum? I wonder if this also happens to non-powered trunks. Please submit your suggestions and comments. Thank you.
