  1. Is it in sports mode? I'm not sure how the non-hybrids are setup, but in the hybrid you have a setting in the computer for Sports or Normal mode. In sports mode I get horrid MPG... not sure if the standard engine has that option or not.

BTW, if you're filling up every several days (a assume 3 days since that is what several typically means), then you're averaging around 90 miles per day. At that consumption you're only going to buy yourself 1 or 2 days more if you can reach the 26 mpg on the sticker.

Regardless, I would expect a higher number than 15 unless you're heavy footed and the turbo is kicking in a lot. Take it to the dealer and have them look into it. If it's only at 3k, they should be willing to jump through hoops for you.

  2. There was/is a ticket on it for the MKX... not sure if the MKz had/has similar issues... Looks like there was/is a TSB on the MKz 2007 too (see below quoted for MKX and then following for the MKz TSB 08-13-08 )...

08-26-5 POWER WINDOW GLOBAL OPEN FEATURE - TURNING FEATURE OFF

    Publication Date: December 12, 2008

    LINCOLN: 2007-2009 MKX

    ISSUE:

Some 2007-2009 Lincoln MKX customers may perceive problems with the global open system which may include: system operates erratically, false operation, both front windows and roof opening panel (if equipped) opens intermittently. When normal diagnostics do not identify a concern with the operation of the system, customers may request to have the global open feature disabled.

This information is provided so customers who request the change may have the function turned off at their expense.

    ACTION:

Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

    SERVICE PROCEDURE

NOTE: THIS PROCEDURE IS INTENDED TO HELP IDENTIFY AND DIAGNOSE CERTAIN CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS WITH THE GLOBAL OPEN SYSTEM FUNCTION. THIS PROCEDURE SHOULD NOT BE USED AS A SUBSTITUTE BUT RATHER AS A ENHANCEMENT TO THE WORKSHOP MANUAL (WSM). CORRECT PIN POINT TESTS IN THE WSM SHOULD BE PERFORMED BEFORE USING THIS PROCEDURE.

NOTE: CHECK BASIC GLOBAL OPEN SYSTEM OPERATIONS OR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES, BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DIAGNOSE INTERMITTENT GLOBAL OPEN SYSTEM CONCERNS. IF CONCERNS ARE DISCOVERED WITH BASIC GLOBAL OPERATION, REPAIRS MUST BE MADE TO RESTORE THE BASIC SYSTEM BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO EVALUATE THE GLOBAL OPEN SYSTEM.

NOTE: THIS PUBLICATION IS FOR THOSE CUSTOMERS THAT WISH TO HAVE THE FEATURE TURNED OFF AT THEIR EXPENSE.

NOTE: THIS PUBLICATION IS FOR INFORMATION PURPOSES ONLY AND IT IS NOT WARRANTABLE UNDER THE PROVISION OF BASIC MANUFACTURER AND/OR BUMPER TO BUMPER COVERAGE.

    Principles Of Operation:

A global open request may be received from either the set / reset switch in the driver's door key cylinder or via the integrated keyhead transmitter (IKT) unlock button, when either is held in the unlock position for more than 2 seconds. Once the signal is received from the IKT, the Smart Junction Box (SJB) located in the left hand (LH) A pillar sends a signal on the global open circuit, to open both front door window motors and the roof opening panel motor (if equipped). Once an activation via the set / reset switch is initiated, the windows will open as long as the key remains in the unlock position.

MKX not equipped with a global close feature.

If the accessory delay relay is active, the global open feature will not operate.

Global Open Feature Activation Using The Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Or IKT Transmitter:

Refer to the correct model year Owners Guide under the Locks and Security section.

The following may be examples of customer concerns with the global open system:

System Operates Erratically - Some customers may indicate the system operates intermittently, and perceive a false operation.

System Operates Erratically - Both Front windows open intermittently.

System Operates Erratically - Both Front windows and roof opening panel (if equipped) open intermittently.

System Operates correctly - Customers may have the featured turned off.

    Visual Checks:

Before attempting to diagnose the global open feature, be sure that the driver is not inadvertently pressing and releasing the IKT transmitter unlock button for more than two seconds. Duplicate the condition with the customer (if applicable).

Make certain no dirt, ink or metal objects are covering or touching the RKE or IKT transmitter pad or unlock button. Remove or clean any dirt, ink, or metal objects covering or blocking the RKE or IKT transmitter buttons before proceeding.

Check for any added on components spliced to the electrical parts of the SJB, windows or roof opening panel, which may prevent proper function of the global open feature.

Check for the correct voltage of the RKE or IKT transmitter batteries; refer to WSM section 501-14.

NOTE: MOST OF THE REPORTED ISSUES WITH GLOBAL OPEN SYSTEM FEATURE HAVE BEEN ATTRIBUTED TO INADVERTENTLY PRESSING THE RKE OR IKT TRANSMITTER UNLOCK BUTTON FOR MORE THAN TWO SECONDS, DURING NORMAL USE. THIS MAY BE PERCEIVED AS AN INCORRECT FUNCTION OF THE GLOBAL SYSTEM.

    Service Tips:

Does the global open function operate with normal RKE or IKT command? No - Diagnose the global open function using normal WSM, Section 501-11. Then proceed to Step 2.

Yes - Proceed to Step 2.

Does the customer wish to have the feature turned off after explaining the operation details? No - No further diagnosis is needed, refer the customer to the Owners Guide, and return the vehicle to the customer.

Yes - Check the Smart Power Distribution Junction Box (SPDJB) software part number via the vehicle data communication link (DCL) connector and Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) scan tool. Check under Log Viewer for the GEM/SJB_FILENAME software part number. If SPDJB software part number is XXXXX or newer version, proceed to step 3.

If SPDJB software part number is XXXXX version than 7L1T-14C184-AH, proceed to Step 4.

For units with SPDJB software part number 7L1T-14C184-AH or newer version, the feature can be disabled without any parts replacement. Use the IDS scan tool to disable the feature. Follow the IDS steps below: ID the vehicle.

    Select Module Programming.

    Select Programmable Parameters.

    Select Power Door Locks.

    Select Global Open.

    Select Disable.

For SPDJB with a earlier software version than 7L1T-14C184-AH, the disable feature can be achieved by replacing the SPDJB to the latest level following the WSM, Section 419-10, and use the IDS to disable the feature once module replacement and configuration is complete. Use the following steps in IDS screens to disable the feature, after SJB replacement. ID the vehicle.

    Select Module Programming.

    Select Programmable Module Installation (GEM).

Follow screen instructions to install new GEM.

After the new GEM has successfully been installed, turn off the feature using a Programmable Parameter.

    Select Programmable Parameters.

    Select Power Door Locks.

    Select Global Open.

    Select Disable.

  3. I finally got around to taking the car in for the steering rack bolts recall, trunk closer issue and repeat ambient lighting fix.  It was also due for a oil change.  In the interim since my last service, a new issue developed.  One day, I leaned over to the right to get my wallet out of left back pocket when something in the seat went  "pop" and the right side seat bolster moved back.  From that time on, whenever I put pressure on that part of the seat, the bolster would move. They ordered a new seat back which has come in but I've had to cancel two appointments due to snow.

Anyway, in the process of correcting the ambient lighting issue, they once again deleted our paired phones along with all our previous destinations and favorites in the nav system.  Worse than that, however, they somehow erased my key fobs!  Apparently, the lot attendant couldn't start my car so he called my (long standing) SA who had to start the car using the emergency procedure.  The "No Fob Detected" message was displaying.  He thought that the fob battery might be dead but I told him that we never even use that fob.  He said to take the car home and see if the other fob worked.  It did not.  All the fob functions worked WRT to locking and unlocking.  Even remote start worked, but that was no help, as you couldn't get the car out of Park because the fob could not communicate with the instrument cluster. You could only drive the car by using the emergency procedure.   He told me to bring the car back the next day.  Of course, the next  morning, as I was heading back to the dealer, every thing was back to normal. No message and the car started normally. I called back to cancel my appointment.  We had some errands to do and the first time I shut the car off I got the message again.  By this time it was later in the afternoon and when I called the SA back, he told me to bring the car back the next day.  I had no problem with this but my wife was freaking out since she had to go somewhere the next day and was afraid.  So he told me I could drop the car off but there were no Lincoln loaners available and he'd have to get me a rental. I'd had a brand new MKX with 150 miles on it.  I ended up with a Dodge Dart. What a POS!  No wonder they can't sell them and FCA is killing it.  They reprogrammed the fobs and all is well.  I know they were really pissed at the tech that originally worked on the car because I had to come back but he swore it started normally when he was done working on it.

The upshot of all this is that the ambient lighting started reverting to white again after about two weeks.  The car goes back next week.  The saga continues.  More to come.

If I remember correctly, when they did my "fix" they had to have both keys to reprogram... also, my door access codes where whipped out and the master code had changed. FYI.

  4. My wife's 2014 MKZH had what appeared to be a "light hit" on the right rear. The bumper upper & lower covers had to be replaced. Because of the angle of the hit, the right rear quarter panel had a small crease that could NOT be repaired so it wouldn't show. This required a replacement of the quarter panel at the factory welds.

The interior roof finish panel had to be removed via the front window shield that was removed. The side air bags had to be removed along with the rear & small side window. The full panoramic roof had to be removed to reach the factory rear quarter panel welds & glue spots. The side anti-collision warning system was damaged along with the back up warning system & right rear tail light assembly. The unibody had to be straightened as is usually the case with this type of car. All work done by factory certified technicians--their names and license numbers are on the repair paperwork.

The Insurance company's shop first stated a repair under $3,000. They could not answer my repair questions, so I took the car to the Dealership where we had body shop experience. Since this Hybrid car had many technical issues, the Dealership was the correct place for repair. Total cost grew to over $10,500---all because a careless driver was not paying attention to traffic and hit her car. Since no one was hurt, our cost was nothing due to a rear end hit. Total time for repair was a little over 2 months due to electrical issues and new part delay. As of 10/04/2015 there are no issues with the car except a Carfax report lisitng the accident.

After our car rental insurance was up, the dealership let us use one of their cars for over a month. The repair is great and you can't tell it was hit. Every system was checked with repairs as required.

I attempted to resolve a diminished value claim with the other insurance company. They basicly wanted nothing to do with that. I worked on it a few months and got no where. Therefore a diminished value attorney is now handling the case. We are seeking $6,750 due to the value lost on the day of the accident.

    Ouchy...

USAA had me take it to a very reputable shop for estimate, but they were unable to take it into repair for another two weeks. They did the damage appraisal for USAA and then gave me a recommendation on where to take it. The place the recommended is the shop I would prefer to take it to. They have done extensive work on our company vehicles for many years and have an outstanding reputation in this area. USAA told me I could take it to whatever shop I wanted to and they would supplement cost for additional repairs to that shop. They just require an base estimate from their shop first.

I would take it to the local dealer, but I had minor bump in the rear end a few months ago that was a separate insurance claim and their repair left a lot to be desired. The shop I have it at now has already told me that they will take the car to the Lincoln dealership to disconnect the hybrid system and for any hybrid repairs, but all body work will be completed by them (not Lincoln), which is what I want.

The PanaRoof held up just fine. It opens and closes and tracks without issue. I'm not sure how fast the car that hit me was going. I was at a redlight turning right waiting for traffic to clear, so I was not looking in the RW mirror. My guess is she thought I had cleared the intersection and gunned it to try and squeeze into traffic. Best guess is 15 to 20 mph... it was a pretty good thump and although I was not hurt, I was pretty soar two days later...

Now on to more important things... puppy pictures.

  5. Well... got rammed pretty good by an Escalade the other day. Luckily she had USAA insurance and they have been really good to deal with.

Let me tell you, these hybrids can be expensive to fix. I didn't think the damage looked too bad; However, initial estimate by USAA insurance is $ 9k and the guy told me he really expects at a minimum 2k extra and maybe A LOT more if the batteries are damaged. The compartment holding them was buckled, so he isn't holding out much hope there isn't some damage in there, but won't be able to tell until the Collision center tears it down. Told me not to worry, that the collision center will be able to supplement the estimate once they have it in shop.

Most important thing is everyone was ok... including my puppy, who was buckled up in the back seat.

  6. My 2015 MKZ Hybrid all of a sudden is getting poor gas mileage. It has gone from a good 44 mpg to 25 mpg. It  started when I took a trip from Connecticut to South Carolina. Can't  figure what could be wrong. But it seems to run on the gas engine more than the EV, even at idol.

    Has anyone experienced this.

Make sure you're not is sports mode... My MPG drops to the 25 range when I run it in sports mode, even when not driving "sporty"

  7. Finally!!! Picked her up Wednesday! It's been constantly raining in SE Texas. So she's dirty. Got the windows tinted yesterday, and will be removing all the emblems on the trunk next week(will post pics) Also, currently still waiting on a Lincoln parts guy to get back to me on the black grille inserts that come on black label cars. I want them! We may not be able to purchase them though. We will see, plan to get a body shop to do it if I can't order them. Btw, absolutely love the car!!! Drives incredibly smooth, and when it's in sport mode, I love how we can actually notice a difference in tighter steering/suspension and the improved throttle response!

And only complaint: not having g built in Pandora. I can Bluetooth play Pandora through my phone, but was expecting to have it built in as an app in the car so I can navigate through stations, thumbs up, etc... Maybe sync 3 users get that? Ohh, and the massaging seats! (Wife loves that) lol

On the messaging seats... mine shorted out and the service department said there was a known service ticket on that issue... mine is a 2014, so not sure if they fixed it prior to yours, but worth asking about.

  8. It connected to my home network right away but, like you, I couldn't find a practical use for it.

I guess so you could tether your car to your phone's internet and then use the cars WiFi as a hot spot for other devices... such as a wifi tablet...

  9. I have just over 23,000 miles on my MKZ and there is not much life left in my tires.  Very disapointing mileage for Michelin tires (245/40 R 19), very disappointing for any tires.  I do not drive my cars hard and i rotate about every 4,000 miles. I would expect better tread life that what I am experiencing.

What is your experience on your 2013 or 2014 MKZ?

Any suggestion for a tire that would get better mileage?

Posted this in a different thread so I just cut and pasted it here...

Just replaced the Michelin MXM4 OEM at 30,000 on my 2014 MKZh with the Cinturato Perilli P7 Plus in a 245-40-19 for under $900.00 installed. I can say without a doubt that they are super quiet and smooth on the road. Maybe the Michelin had gotten a bit noisy with the wear, but it was a noticeable difference between the two tires and I'm very happy with my choice.

As a 6k mileage update on the new tires and am SO happy... it's such a nice ride and so quite. I'm not sure I remember what the OEM's felt like new, but it was/is such a noticeable difference between the worn OEM's and the Perilli, it's almost like a new car. One note, the Perilli can be a bit difficult to get balanced correctly, so don't be shy in going back to have them adjusted. Kauffman tire gave me that warning and I did go back one time for a small adjustment on the front right, but since then it's been smooth like butter.

Tread warranty is supposed to be 70k... so let's hope it last more than the OEM's ;)

  10. I own the 2014 with THX and its by far the worse sounding system ever! The subs are a joke (non-existent) and the highs sharply just drop off short of the mark. Then you have to deal with a seriously unbalanced center speaker that is way too loud and has no tone quality what-so-ever. Poor design and poor sound quality. My Fusion has a stock low grade standard sterio and it sounds way better! So does the base stereo in the MKZ. THX system=downgrade from standard

What source are you using for the audio? I have none of those issues when I play a CD or use USB High quality lossless WMA. I do see that issue when using Bluetooth audio/Sirius/or lower quality mp3's.

Not saying this is the case, but sometime a better sound system amplifies the crappy audio sources/mp3's we tend to use...

  12. I thought the airbag issue had to do with the shards of metal fragments flying out of the airbag when deployed. I don't think it had anything to do with something the airbag light would come on for, FYI.

So... I'm not sure how they can say you're safe, except that the % of failure are extremely low so the odds would most likely be in your favor. Unless you're that one lucky dude that wins the lottery... just saying ;)

  13. I think once the rest of the world changes to DST (March 29) then the GPS Clock Reset button should work.... I know it only takes a few seconds to adjust the clock manually and not a big deal... Just one of those folks were everything in my car needs to work as designed

Don't count on it... it didn't work last summer, so I doubt it will be working this summer... unless they put a fix in a software update.

BTW, it is working as designed... it's just a poor design ;(

  14. My boss's Audi burns a quart every 1,500 to 2,000 miles.  If you don't break in an Audi 100% perfectly, they're garbage.  Having built a few Harley engines in my day to Stage III performance (everything but forced induction) with very tight (even for a sport bike) tolerances and high (for a Harley) compression, the break in process had to be spot on or you'd end up with oil burn predictably.  I gather Audis are the same with the tolerances being too intolerant of variation from the perfect break-in conditions (which aren't really possible unless the engine is in a lab).  It baffles me why Germans can't get some reliability engineers in there.  Just one hire from Toyota or Honda would make a difference, I swear.

turned out to not be the "break in"... they had a manufacturing "defect" in the size of the piston that were slightly smaller than they should have been, allowing oil to pass the rings. My Audi started off at around 30k miles needing 1,500 - 2,000 needing a quart (that's when I had Audi first check the engine). By the end of the 3rd year of ownership (90k miles) it was at a quart every 200-400 miles.

I loved my Audi... but wouldn't buy another one seeing how Audi/VW NA treated me on a situation they KNEW was an issue.

I'm sure every manufacturer has their own issues... as such, Ford won't be without theirs. What should define a good company is how they deal with those issues. Audi, decided to tell me to pound sand knowing they had an issue. That being said, I wouldn't expect the Original Poster will be buying another Ford with the way they are treating him on an obvious defect.

  15. Um... this is an assembly/fitment issue (as it is "common" but not "by design") which legal precedent supports as one of the clearest examples of "manufacturer defect" that there is.  Ford cannot demonstrate in court that "by design" the trunk is supposed to destroy a seal and scrape paint - they'd be laughed out by even the most corporate of judges.

I'd continue your quest professionally to get this fixed and perhaps attempt resolution at another dealership.  Include local newspapers and car review magazines.  Create a YouTube video and promote it as much as you can.  But I must say, something is fishy that they blatantly refuse to address anything at all.  I saw this because I had a Ford Fiesta for a while and it needed the transmission rebuilt twice (first time led to a new noise, second time yet another noise) and then they finally replaced it (at a different dealer) - all of this before 38K!.  Ford wasn't efficient about just getting the replacement done in the first place, saving them time and a lot of money, but they did do the right thing in the end (then I sold that f'ing thing).

It's not unique to Ford either... my previous Audio A4 had engine troubles and it burned a quart of oil every 200-400 miles. Audi told me this was "normal". Months later they told me I needed a new engine to fix the issue at my cost (10k+). I had done every service interval at the same dealership and had all paper work for that and yet Audi NA told me to pound sand as my car was out of warrant (although the oil issue was brought up during the warranty period... I put over 30k miles a year, so we burn the warranty pretty quickly). Yes, I was putting oil in the car just about every other day... I got to the point where I would take it to the dealership and have them "top off" the oil... The Dealership was helpful in that way, they were happy to try and help me out never charging me to top off and agreed what Audi NA said wasn't reasonable.

Instead of fighting it... got rid of the car and bought the Lincoln. 6 months later I got a letter in the mail stating that Audi/VW NA had settled a class action law suit on the issue and that if I had paid for the repair, they would reimburse me or if the repair still needed to be done, they would cover the cost...

  16. sync 3 is based off blackberry and not Microsoft... they kicked Microsoft to the curb. My guess is this will be a much better integration than the MS platform was. MS didn't put any time/money into it and blackberry can't afford not to make it work...

Personally, I like the clean look of the no buttons. I'm not sure I would have bought it with dials/knobs/buttons... I do most things voice activation anyway.

  17. try tweeting a picture of the issue to @LincolnClient

I wouldn't get all "bowed up" in the tweet... but I would ask for help from them and state the facts. I have found that twitter is a great resource to get resolution on a lot of issue like this. Sometimes when it's in the face of the public eye, it get's more attention.
