I need to remove the headliner to work on the standard sunroof.  My question is can I drive the car with all of the electrical components unconnected?

Hi ahwinn and welcome to the Ford Fusion Forum. If you are referring to the moonroof electrical components only? Yes, you can drive the vehicle. Obviously just be sure it is closed in case of rain.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

I have a loud squeal happening from the front brakes ONLY when moving slowly in reverse, especially when turning the wheel, such as backing out of parking spots.  Otherwise there's no sounds from the brakes and they work as they should.  What could be the problem?

Hi New2Lincoln14 and welcome to the Lincoln MKZ Forum. It could be any of many things. Worn brake pads, worn brakes in general, debris stuck on the pads, rust on the rotors, etc. etc.

Brakes are nothing to play around with, so it would be best to have your Lincoln/Ford Dealer or an independent shop you trust take a look. Or perhaps have a car-knowledgeable friend take a look first.

Was Lincoln trying to save $7.00 per car by failing to provide a windshield molding or trim?

Hi Brads600 and welcome to the Lincoln MKZ Forum. Most modern vehicles no longer utilize "windshield molding or trim". It gives the vehicle a more finished look (according to opinion, of course), and better aerodynamics also.

    Good luck.

My 2012 MKZ rear outer tail light is going bad. It will sometimes function, but mostly just flickers and doesn't work at all. I have seen some used on eBay, but I honestly don't trust eBay anymore. Are there any other sites to shop for this part? I def refuse to spend the $400.00 plus that Ford wants for OEM replacement . Please do not take this as an opportunity to insult me in any way as I know car forums are a breeding ground for ignorance. Thank you in advance!

Hi tpz76. You can try the various online Ford parts sellers. Many will offer well below MSRP pricing. Google "Online Ford Parts sellers" for a listing of the many Ford Dealers who sell online. Then check with as many as you wish to find the best price.

If you do not have the correct part number handy, you can obtain it from the Parts Department at your local Dealership. Have your VIN handy. Or take a look here: https://www.google.com/search?q=2012+MKZ+rear+right+taillight+housing&client=firefox-b-1-d&sca_esv=593314887&ei=PEqHZYfFAcSJptQP7vaguAg&ved=0ahUKEwiH0-njuaaDAxXEhIkEHW47CIcQ4dUDCBA&oq=2012+MKZ+rear+right+taillight+housing&gs_lp=Egxnd3Mtd2l6LXNlcnAiJTIwMTIgTUtaIHJlYXIgcmlnaHQgdGFpbGxpZ2h0IGhvdXNpbmcyChAhGKABGMMEGAoyChAhGKABGMMEGAoyChAhGKABGMMEGAoyChAhGKABGMMEGApI2ZUBUPwLWIKNAXACeAGQAQCYAWKgAdECqgEBNLgBDMgBAPgBAcICChAAGEcY1gQYsAPCAggQABiABBiiBMICCBAAGIkFGKIE4gMEGAAgQeIDBRIBMSBAiAYBkAYE&sclient=gws-wiz-serp

I also sent an email to the service manager and called the dealership immediately. But being a weekend, the service manager is not there neither was the service advisor who handled my recall.

I had several service issues with this dealership so am I bit wary of bringing my vehicle for service there. The service manager is very accommodating though - it is the people who perform the job they are supposed to be an expert that I have mixed feelings.

Any wild guess what would have happened if I hadn't found out? I will ask Ford.

Happy Weekend and Thanks for replying.

Hi kramf, You are very welcome! No guesses, but it is certainly a much better situation to have it correctly installed, right-side up and tight. 🙃😉

And I would definitely recommend stopping by the Service Department one day to show your videos to the Service Advisor/Service Manager. They can't instruct the staff to do better if they don't know about the mistakes made.

Let us know how you make out, and hope you also have a very happy weekend! 🍻

  6. Hi kramf. Hard to discern definitively in the photos videos, but it seems that bracket is not only loose, but is also upside down. It looks like the loose bracket in the first video should be flipped over, so that the raised side edges face up, and the tab should be inserted into the hole, as it is in the second video of the tight bracket.

If you are not comfortable doing it yourself, have the Service Department address it ASAP. And even if you decide to do it yourself, I would still stop by the Service Department to show them your videos, and have them double-check, re-torque and clean everything up.

Keep us updated and good luck.

I had my vehicle towed today for this (I think). I discovered a good amount of puddle of what it seems like brake fluid on my garage floor coming from where the front of the vehicle was.

We were extremely lucky since my family were just on a 6-hr out of state travel. The day after the travel, coming from work, as soon as I pulled into my garage, I felt my brake pedal was "soft" and depressed down to the floor. I left it the way it is overnight and was ready to drive the vehicle for work again. I backed up and thought the brakes "are not right", left the car in the driveway. I as walk going inside the garage, I saw the puddle.

Any of you guys experience this?

Hi kramf. Go to the NHTSA website to see if your 2017 is included in the 2013-2018 brake hose recall which drolds1 referenced above: https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls

As a 2017, it would seem yours should be included.

So last visit to Lincoln dealer they did the works service ( $108.00 ) and said that I should have the throttle body cleaned  ( $102.00 ), car has 22 K miles . I went with it because I want car to last a long time . Was this a needed service ? I am getting suspicious of the dealer .  Jim

Hi jimflutes. Well, blind Internet diagnosis/opinion: Assuming you were having no driveability issues, and with the information you provided (~22,000 miles), my opinion would be no, it was not a needed service.

And according to what type of method they used to "clean" the throttle body, it may have even been a Lincoln/Ford prohibited service.

Many dealers will try to up-sell these services, which in many cases, are not necessary or needed.

    Good luck.

  9. Hi gang. 17MKZ3.0TT offered good information above. However, just to avoid confusion: Our MKZ engines are designed to run on fuel with a minimum octane of 87, and containing up to 15% ethanol (E15). They will get full advertised power using 93 octane, but will only suffer a loss of ~ 20-25 horsepower using 87 octane. And using 89-91 octane mid-grades will offer correspondingly lower ratio losses of horsepower than 87 octane. Full gas, non-ethanol fuels can be hard to find in many parts of the country, so have no worries about using E-10 fuels, or up to E-15, if it is all that is available.

More important than octane (other than minimum 87) is to use good quality fuels. So try to only use Top Tier fuels from name brand stations, avoiding cheap, generic gas stations whenever possible.

Essentially, if you really need full advertised power, use Top Tier, 93 octane fuels. If not, and you can get away with 375-380 horsepower in your daily drives, use 87 octane, save money and rest easy. Personally I use Top Tier, 87 octane fuel 95%+ of the time, unless I'm feeling a bit sporty. But then again, I do not drive my MKZ hard at all.

All of the above being said, I would still recommend everyone read their Owners Manual section concerning correct fuels to use. Just look in the Index under "Fuel Quality" for the correct pages in your copy.

Feel free to ask any questions, and good luck.

i would like clarification on the lemon law for a transmission that has been replaced on my car by the manufacturer one time already and now needs to be replaced again. So this would be the third transmission.

same issue with noise.....no leaking fluid tho. Purchased the car from someone that just had the transmission installed by a ford dealer under the original warranty. They had it replaced in July of 2021. So its been about 2 years and one month since that time. What did you end up doing?

Hi bgood. If your vehicle is a 2017 model year: In many states, the Lemon Law only applies to the original vehicle owner, and for first 2 years/24,000 miles. And there is no automotive Lemon Law for vehicles which are well outside the 4 year/50,000 mile New Vehicle Warranty.

Essentially, if this is a used vehicle you purchased, your recourse would be within whatever your Dealer contract states, and/or any used vehicle laws apply in your state (if any).

The other day I got a message to the effect that the car was in deep sleep mode and connectivity was lost. It directed me to start the car to restore connectivity, which I did.  It immediately sent another message "congratulating" me on a successful download of an updated version of the app.  So far, I haven't found any difference from the prior version. Oddly, neither of these messages appear in the message center.

    Anyone else experience this?

Hi drolds1. I did not. However, my 2018 MKZ is running SYNC 3.0, while yours is running SYNC 3.4. So our versions may be (or likely are) different.

Out of curiosity...my LincolnWay app last updated 2 days ago, and the current version is "4.29.1 USA". What is yours?

    Good luck.

Wow thanks for that, bb.  So the screen and brain is what would be sent off for repair?  I'd need to buy a new one if I want to change to Sync 3?  What advantages are there to 3?

Next, please post the procedure to remove the pano roof sunshade! ?

Hi heyjewel. No, not the SYNC screen. That would possibly be the case if repairing/replacing SYNC (according to the underlying issue, of course).

In your case, it would seem you need to replace/repair the FCIM/control panels for the audio and climate controls which are malfunctioning.

The advantages to SYNC 3 are numerous. It is faster, more reliable, etc. etc. etc. It may be easier and you will find more information if you Google "SYNC 3 versus SYNC 2", "Advantages of SYNC 3 over SYNC 2" and other similar phrases.

I will certainly look into that.  Concerned now about getting it out without screwing up my dash. Downloaded a ford service app but haven't gotten it to work. Yet?

Hi heyjewel. Here is a video demonstrating how to disassemble the center console and center stack area. While the instructions are aimed at upgrading MyLincoln Touch to SYNC 3 (something you may want to think about), following them will also allow you to access and remove the FCIM.

Keep us updated and good luck.

OK found it at Ford Parts Giant.  Seems it is available if you have $1400 or so.  Ugh.

Hi heyjewel. There are companies/individuals who rebuild/refurbish the FCIM's for far less than that. Some will rebuild yours. You ship it to them, they rebuild it and ship it back to you. Others will sell you a refurbished one.

Members here and on other forums have replaced theirs in that way.

You may want to check around for one of those companies/individuals.

My 2014 hybrid has 165,000 on the odo.  All troublefree miles. Until NOW.  Problems with pano roof and not the console controls are whacked.  Radio volume goes all over the place. Reallly bad when it jumps to max volume. Cant even use it anymore.

Hi heyjewel. The console/audio control issue is most likely due to a failing/failed FCIM (Front Control Interface Module). It is not an unknown issue. The FCIM will need to be replaced or rebuilt.

Thanks for reply.  Yeah it's small but still dropping.  Wondering if a 'tuneup' will help?  Wondering if nightmare scenario of batteries getting old might be problem?

Hi heyjewel. The first place to look would be a change in driving habits and/or environment. For example...seasonal changes in driving environment. If the temperatures lately are hot where you are, and you are using the A/C more than previously, that will result in a significant drop in fuel mileage for the season. Sometimes up to 25%.

Another variable would be if you are driving more highway miles lately. Since the hybrid also uses regenerative braking to recharge the batteries, highway miles can result in a mpg hit, since it will result in less regenerative braking/more ICE engine usage, and thus...the possibility of lower fuel mileage.

There are many other variables, but you get the idea.

It is impossible to accurately determine if a "tune-up" will help, since that would depend on whether it is a tune-up curable type of issue.  When was your last tune-up (plugs, engine air filter etc.)?

Plugs are usually required to be changed at 100,000 miles on the ICE engines. I am not sure about the Hybrid, it may be the same or not. It would be good to change the engine air filter every 30,000 miles.

You can find the Hybrid Maintenance Schedule in your Owners Manual. If the plugs or engine air filter etc. are due for a change, change them.

All in all, a 2.5% drop in fuel mileage is usually not something to worry about. So keep an eye on it to see if it continues to drop precipitously.

Keep us updated and good luck.

Does anybody with the 3.0 run e85 or any alternate fuel or is that even a thing for these cars? I’m looking to make the most out of the car but I haven’t seen anything about e85 or seen any flex fuel kits online.

Hi Chasetomasi and welcome to the Lincoln MKZ Forum. If you are referring to the 3.0T engine in the 2017+ MKZ's? No, do not use E-85 fuel. The engine is not E-85 compatible.

    Good luck.

Hello. 2014 mkZ hybrid with 165,000 miles.  MPG has always been around 40.  Past few weeks has steadily dropped to 39.0  Any ideas why?

Hi heyjewel. That is only a difference of ~2.5%. It is negligible (even well within the margin of error), and could be due to anything. Higher ambient temperatures. Increased use of A/C. Slight differences in the driving environment which you would not even notice...etc., etc. It is nothing to be concerned about unless it keeps dropping at a higher rate.

Keep us updated and good luck.

Hi, I have already spoken with crutchfield to ask this same question and was ironically enough directed to these forums because they said that I would likely have better luck here

Hi Trengey. There are one or two audiophiles here with the knowledge to possibly assist you, if they are still around to see your questions. Perhaps one of them will jump in to help.

In the meantime...I am shocked that Crutchfield would direct you here for expert audio information. If no one jumps in here to help, my best advice would be to call Crutchfield back and get another representative.

Otherwise, I would recommend you order and purchase the correct Factory/OEM Revel speaker to replace the blown one. That can be done via the Parts Department at your local Lincoln or Ford Dealer (have your VIN handy). Or you can get the part number from them and use it to online shop for a better price.

Keep us updated and good luck.
