  1. Hi Woodzy. Any used car is a gamble. And as Multitask stated, a CarFax report only goes so far. For example, maintenance can be performed but unreported, just as the vehicle could have been in unreported accidents. So unless there are maintenance records available, you will need to assume spending money for all required maintenance between 0-~70,000 miles (6 year/70,000 mile Powertrain Warranty), according to the Maintenance Schedule in the 2018 MKZ Owners Manual. And yes, the mileage is a bit high for a ~4-5 year old vehicle. If you want to go through with the purchase, my advice would be to have a professional vehicle inspection performed before you purchase, by a shop you trust, if possible. If you want an ESP Plan, I would recommend two things: First...purchase a factory, LincolnProtect ESP plan, not a third party, aftermarket plan. There are 4 levels of LincolnProtect Plan coverage. Next...if you decide to purchase an ESP and want the best price, look here: https://www.zeiglerfordesp.com/tools/articles.aspx?article=New_Used_Cpo_Lincoln_Protect After extensive local local Lincoln/Ford Dealer and online price shopping, it is where I purchased the LincolnProtect ESP's for my previous 4 Lincolns. Their pricing has always been the lowest of the online sellers, and far lower than Lincoln/Ford Dealer prices. You can also find many other online sellers to price shop by Googling "Lincoln ESP Plans": https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=Lincoln+ESP+plans Let us know how you make out and good luck.
  2. Hi Sea Warrior. No problem at all. I have recommended some Meguiar's products that I use, mostly waxes and leather care products. But I've never used that headlight product. Again, my opinion would be: Meguiar's are the experts and make the product, so if it were me, I would call Meguiar's and ask them what they recommend as the best way to remove the product. Let us know how you make out and good luck.
  3. Hi Sea Warrior. Unfortunately I have not used and am not familiar with that particular Meguiar's product. I would recommend you call their Customer Service line and ask for suggestions on how to remedy this issue. On a related note...While I don't have the "Meguiar's Keep Clean Headlight Coating" container in front of me, I believe it is possible they were referring to using rubbing alcohol to remove "overspray" from the painted surfaces of the vehicle, not to remove "overspray" on plastic headlight covers, taillights etc. In other words, to remove product overspray from the paint surfaces of the hood, bumper cover etc. And you are correct...In the future, I would advise never to apply any product on the vehicle paint/plastic etc., while the vehicle is in the sun or still warm/hot from being in the sunlight. Even if the product states it is safe to apply in direct sunlight, I always apply in the shade or while the sun is on the other side of the car, if shade is scarce in your area. Keep us updated and good luck.
  4. Hi Jake. You can find a how-to video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_AuGTOeO1A And you can purcahse FORScan software here: https://forscan.org/home.html Let us know how you make out and good luck.
  5. Hi Jake and welcome to the Lincoln MKZ Forum. If you are seriously contemplating that, you should look into making the complete upgrade to SYNC 3, along with the audio etc. There are third party kits available to make this upgrade. Google "Lincoln MKZ AYNC 3 upgrade": https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=Lincoln+MKZ+SYNC+3+upgrade Concerning whether the "screw, brackets, and other structural components are identical to its predecessor"? I am not sure. If I had to guess, I would say there likely would be differences. But that is just a guess, and I am just as liable to be wrong as right. If there are, I would think fabricating brackets to retrofit would not be difficult. They may even be available from third party companies such as Crutchfield. You could give them a call to find out. https://www.crutchfield.com/S-UinwWRNtfBy/ Let us know how you make out and good luck.
  6. Hi Dareal1 and welcome to the Lincoln MKZ Forum. Did you call back the Service Department at your Dealership? Don't wait for them to call. Always ask for a tentative date, then call back when you have not heard from them by that date. That goes for any Dealership in any situation. And I am not making excuses for the Service Department at your first Dealership, only dealing with the reality of how things normally operate. Let us know how things go with the second Dealership and good luck.
  7. Hi tiktok. Not sure if the trim can be removed. You would need to remove the entire door panel to get to the back and find out. Or alternately...stop by the Parts Department of your local Lincoln or Ford Dealer and ask them if the wood trim panel/door handle surround is available as a separate part. If yes, it is probably removable. If no, it probably is not removable. A suggestion though: You may be better off stopping by an automotive upholstery shop and asking them if they can repair it. Just Google "Automotive upholstery shops near me" to find out what shops you have nearby. Let us know how you make out and good luck.
  8. Hi Sea Warrior. Yes, if you have the 2.0T, then you do not need XL tires. And since you can use SL or XL rated tires, you have more options. Which option you choose really depends on your driving/ride preferences and driving style. So first...apples to apples, you will not really notice any difference between SL and XL load rated tires. For example, at least in some sizes, our OEM Michelin Primacy MXM4 is available in both SL and XL types. My 3.0T AWD is equipped with the XL rated tire. Your 2.0T is equipped with the SL rated version. Most drivers would not notice any difference between the two at all. And if a sensitive driver did, the difference in feel would probably be about what a 2psi difference in tire pressure would add up to. In other words, virtually indistinguishable. Of course, that is comparing apples to apples with the same Make/model/size tire. Comparing different makes/models/sizes is an entirely new ballgame. So some of your options would include: If ride comfort is more important to you than performance, you could go with a less expensive, ride comfort oriented SL or XL load rated tires in the Grand Touring category tire for your car. Same option if cost is a consideration. However, if performance is important and cost is not really a consideration, go with the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4 or an equal alternative. Concerning remaining tread depth: Yes, according to your monthly mileage, you could probably make it until October. Just be very careful in the rain, since you are only just above the 3/32 minimum before you hit the tread bars at 2/32. You are in definite aquaplaning territory. And definitely replace them before the cold weather and snows. Let us know how you make out and good luck.
  9. Hi Sea Warrior. First, if your MKZ does not need XL load tires, check to see if there is a standard load capacity version of the A/S 4. It would be listed separately in the list of applicable tires. If you have standard load Primacy MXM-4' on your MKZ, I assume you have the 2.0L engine? Next...My car handled and rode better with the A/S 3's and 3+'s, as I mentioned in my previous reply. No change in mpg's. Now, part of the better ride could simply be due to the new tires, versus the older/worn tires which had ~53,000 miles on them. Also keep in mind I installed the A/S 3 and A/S 3+ on my older, 2007 MKZ. I believe the 2017-2018+ , 3.0L AWD MKZ's simply had XL tires in order to handle the extra power/torque of the 3.0L engine, and perhaps also the slightly higher weight of the 3.0L AWD version. Feel free to ask any other questions you may have, keep us updated and good luck.
  10. Hi Sea Warrior. You are very welcome! Let us know which tire you decide to install and how you like your choice when the time comes. Good luck. ?
  11. Hi Sea Warrior. Here is my experience. The Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4 is the successor to the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 and 3+. I have had one set each of the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 and A/S 3+ on my older MKZ, and think it is a fantastic tire. First set was the A/S 3. Second was the A/S 3+ (the successor to the 3S). The first set replaced the OEM Michelin Energy MXV4 S8's tires, and gave me ~54,000 miles before I replaced them with the second set. The second set now has ~8,000 miles on them. And again, the 4 is the successor to the 3+. I like the tire very much. A huge improvement in dry and wet handling (especially wet handling) and ride comfort. Even a bit better in the snow than the OE tires, although if you need great snow handling, also buy a set of winter tires/ wheels. I will most likely replace the tires on my older and/or newer MKZ with the 4S or it's successor when I would need to new tires again. As far as the information on the Tire Rack website concerning "4.4M" and "641K" etc.: Those numbers simply refer to the total miles which all the people who have rated those particular tires state they have driven on them. So more people have likely purchased that Conti model...therefore the reported miles for the Conti are higher than the Vredestein, when they rated the tires. I have no idea why you got the tire results you did, other than perhaps searching for a tire using the "Tire Decision Guide" will only give you the top three results (just guessing)? Instead of using the Tire Decision Guide, I would recommend searching for tires by vehicle only. That will give you all tires for that particular vehicle. Then you can use the filters to be more specific. Concerning tread-wear: You can get a general Idea what the manufacturer expects for tread-wear by looking at the tread-wear guarantee for that particular tire. As I stated above, I got ~54,000 miles out of my first set of Pilot Sport A/S 3's. Let us know how you make out and good luck.
  12. Hi Ronald. Please do not double post questions. It is easier for others to help when all questions and information are located in one place. We answered in your other thread, so this one will be locked. Good luck. ?
  13. Hi Ronald and welcome to the Ford Fusion Forum. The Hybrid models have a "lifetime" air filter. The information is in your Owners Manual. If you do not have the hard copy, you can download the PDF version here: https://www.fleet.ford.com/parts-service/resources/owner-manuals/ Good luck.
  14. Hi Dennis and welcome to the Lincoln MKZ Forum. My first thoughts are: Have you contacted the "car audio experts" who installed the sub? They should be the ones to correct this issue. If you can not do that for some reason, then hopefully one of our audiophile members will jump in to help guide you in the right direction. While I will not rule it out, it is doubtful your Lincoln Dealer will be of much help, since their expertise is normally limited to handling issues with factory equipment. Keep us updated and good luck.
  15. Hi Chris. How about a local Ford Dealer? A Ford Dealer will use the proper Motorcraft oil filter and spec oil. Personally, I would not use a JiffyLube or similar type chain shop for service, unless I was best friends with the Manager or tech doing the work and could specify/ensure a Motorcraft oil filter and the proper spec oil were used. If you don't have a convenient local Ford Dealer, do you have in independent shop in your area that you can trust or be referred to by a friend/family member? One you can tell you want a Motorcraft filter and the proper spec oil and trust it is done as you asked? Keep us updated and good luck.
  16. Hi Chris. Difficult to blind Internet diagnose this one. Possibly clogged moonroof drain/drains. Possibly water entered while you "...fiddled with the moonroof to get some air circulation...". Try the old water hose on the outside...while someone observes from inside test...to see if you can locate a leak source. Keep us updated and good luck.
  17. Hi ruby. A few thoughts: First, if your self-installed upgrade to SYNC 3.4 is working properly and you can overcome your "guy genes", stick with your current SYNC version and don't worry about updating. There is nothing new in the updates other than bug fixes, and you won't gain any new features because there are none. In fact, the last update or two were instituted to fix things that the previous one or two updates broke.//LOL So if everything works now, the best advice would be to leave it alone. Next: You will need to rely on third party (i.e. CyanLabs) sources, or bootleg versions of the software to update. Neither Lincoln/Ford nor a Lincoln/Ford Dealer can/will update your "as-built" information. My guess is that even the Lincoln Dealer that told you they would do it for $200 did not really understand what you were asking them to do, and think you just want a vehicle that was factory equipped with SYNC 3.4 to be updated to the latest version of SYNC 3.4. I realize our "guy genes" are difficult to contain, but if everything is operating correctly, leaving things alone so an unnecessary update doesn't break anything would be the best course of action. There are no new features in the latest updates. Only bug fixes. Let us know how you make out and good luck.
  18. Hi Ed. You are very welcome. However, I am confused and have no idea as to what part of my advice helped? ? What did you do? What was the outcome? Is everything working properly now? If you can explain what you did, and how it helped, it may help others with the same problem in the future. Good luck.
  19. Hi Ed. I learn (or re-learn) something new every day! Yes, you are correct. I just looked it up in the 2010 MKZ Owners Manual and that function is available and should work. In fact, it is also available in my 2007 (not my 2018 though). I use the factory code and never set up a personal entry code, so I probably forgot about that available feature over the years. Okay, all of that being said...I guess we go to Troubleshooting 101: Will the mirrors adjust to your preset memory positions when you press the Memory preset buttons on the inside of the door? Change the mirror position with the manual mirror adjustments. Then press a memory preset button. If the mirror does not readjust to the memory preset button being pressed, then it is likely an issue with the power mirror memory function itself. If it does readjust to the memory preset button, then there is a likely a glitch in the keyless entry/mirror memory function that would need addressing. Let us know how you make out and good luck.
  20. Hi Ed and welcome to the Lincoln MKZ Forum. If you are following the Owners Manual instructions and the system is not operating correctly, then then there is possibly/probably some sort of electrical/electronic issue. To be honest though, I have a 2007 and 2018 MKZ, and am not aware of that being a feature of the MKZ. Does your 2010 Owners Maual state you can set the seats/side view mirrors to adjust to a keyless entry code? They can be set to a remote keyfob, but I am not aware of them being programmable to a keyless entry code. Perhaps another member will jump in with more assistance. Keep us updated and good luck.
  21. Hi thedub and welcome to the Lincoln MKZ Forum. First place to check would be the 12v battery. A failing battery can cause all sorts of electrical gremlins similar to what you are experiencing. How old is your 12v battery? If it is the original factory battery, it is long past due for replacement. Your Dealership Service Department should have tested the battery, but we can't be sure of that at this point. Therefore, I would start with a proper load test of your battery. Not an old fashioned battery meter test, but a full, battery load test. There are usually coupons available on the Lincoln and Ford Owner websites, and on most individual Dealer websites, for a free battery test. Let us know how you make out and good luck.
  22. Hi elocin. Not really sure what type of "buildup", or "more expensive gas" your mechanic is referring to. And did the mechanic tell you there is a build up "on the engine" or "in the engine"? So to start, more precise information may help. What and where exactly is this "buildup" the mechanic is referring to? As far as "more expensive gas". Again, what are you referring to? Using premium instead of regular? Or using name brand versus generic/convenience store fuels? You don't need to use premium fuels, only minimum 87 octane fuel. However, you should use name brand, Top Tier rated fuels, not generic/convenience store fuels. I would recommend you start by purchasing your next few tanks of fuel somewhere else, at a name brand, Top Tier station. And run a bottle of Techron Fuel Injector Cleaner in the next two to three tanks. Do that, then get back to us with the results. Let us know how you make out and good luck.
  23. Hi ATM. Congratulations on your new MKZ and welcome to the Lincoln MKZ Forum! Many safe and happy motoring miles and good luck!
  24. Hi PD. Is it safe to assume you meant to type "...year 17-20" , instead of "...year-7-20"? If yes, there are several things to point out: First...It seems you have the engine descriptions confused. A "GTDI" engine (Gas Turbocharged Direct Injection) refers to turbocharged engines. By definition, a "GTDI" engine is a turbocharged engine. Other than the Hybrid, there is no non-turbo 4 cylinder engine in the 2017-2020 MKZ. In other words, the 2017-2020 MKZ 's are equipped with either a 2.0T GTDI (turbocharged) I-4 engine. A 3.0T GTDI (turbocharged) V-6. Or the 2.0L I-4 Hybrid. Next...The 4 cylinder engines in the MKZ are all I-4 engines (Inline). There is no "V-4". Next...Major components that "can" fail are anything, just as with any vehicle. However, major components rarely fail in an MKZ, just as with any vehicle. Next...There are far too many variables to begin listing repair costs for multiple systems and components. In my opinion, if your main feature concerns are the Panoramic roof and Revel Ultima audio system, and you don't need the high power of the 3.0T V-6 engine for "grocery, errands, etc.", you should stick to the MKZ Hybrid or the MKZ 2.0T engines. Then...If you care about getting the best mpg's, find a suitable MKZ Hybrid. If fuel mileage is not a top concern, then find a suitable MKZ 2.0T. Keep us updated and good luck.
  25. Hi PD. You are very welcome. No major or unusual mechanical problems special to the MKZ Hybrid to be wary of. The same possible problems and areas to check when purchasing any used Hybrid. Before buying, I would recommend downloading the MKZ Hybrid Owners Manuals from here: https://www.fleet.ford.com/parts-service/resources/owner-manuals/ If you skim the important parts of the manuals, you can obtain a basic knowledge of the various electronics and computer systems in the car, in order to be able to check them for proper operation before buying. Yes, the MKZ is based off the same basic underpinnings as the Fusion. So are the Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX/Nautilus. However, the MKZ is a more luxury oriented vehicle with more features, a better ride, higher quality materials etc. etc. Let us know how you make out and good luck.
