It might be because you have a push button switch under the trunk lid, right above the license plate. Why not use that?

Hi, I've been a Lincoln owner since '87. My last was a 2005 LSE, prior to that they were all MARK's. I just bought a new 2013 MKZ 3.7, Bordeaux w/ Dune interior. Still reading the manual.
