  1. I purchased the vehicle with the expectations that is was going to offer the same or better features. I had puddle lights and I liked them so I got a vehicle with puddle lights. I am working off the expectation that they would function just as they had and not when the vehicle is unlocked from the remote only. There is no way to to test the functionality of these things during the daytime, and why would I anyway? the purpose to them is to illuminate the ground so you do not step in a puddle. if it does not light the ground up when opening and closing the door then it is not a puddle light. Now you called it a "welcome mat". even a welcome mat serves a purpose just like a puddle light does. This light is not a welcome mat either. It is a feature that serves zero function or purpose and had I know that I would have sought out a vehicle where the features worked as they should and not some 1/2 way thing that Lincoln has changed them to be for some reason that is unknown. The things I am encountering are not things that exist on my previous Lincoln I have a whole headlamp assembly that needs to be replaced because the DRL flashes like a turn signal when ever it wants. The entire center HVAC control board with all the buttons on it in the center console needs to be replaced because of an LED that turns on and off whenever it wants. I don't know if there are other defects in the vehicle as I am seeing a car that has low miles on it need to have 4 thousand dollars in parts put into it. I see the puddle lights as not functioning the way that a puddle light should and I would call that a defect. Now I can bring the car to the dealership and waste my time and theirs only for them to look at the car and then tell me that is how it is supposed to function. Or I can skip over the wasting of peoples time and clogging up that already overloaded service department bringing in a vehicle for a non issue. I asked a service rep about the puddle lights and how they are supposed to work. the answer was "when you open the door". At that time I had not figured out that they only work when you lock and then unlock the car. I live 20 minutes drive at 50mps to the nearest gas station. You guessed it I have no reason to lock my vehicle at my house. and because I do not lock the car the mirrors will not fold in and even if I press the unlock button with the doors already unlocked the lights do not turn on. On my last Lincoln the lights turn on if unlock is pressed regardless of the doors being locked or not. And here is yet another. I can open the trunk on my car without having to have the key on my person. On my last Lincoln you cannot open the trunk from the back of the vehicle unless you have the key within a specific distance from the trunk. Naturally as any person would they would consider this to be a defect. They would consider it a defect because since cars had trunks and locks were put on them you have ALWAYS had to have your keys with you to open the trunk. Now that I have learned that Lincoln has changed the functionality of the options it has had on previous vehicles in a manner that makes absolutely no sense I am going to be inclined to run around the car 2 times, stand on my head and the jiggle the antenna and maybe the trunk will not allow any random person from opening it. Now I am going to assume that the trunk locks and unlocks with the doors which has to be the most brain dead way to design it because if the car is unlocked there is NOTHING to stop a child from pressing the button to open in climb in and then press the button to close it. That would kill that child if it's over 80 degrees out or below 60 degrees if they are in there for a long period of time. I highly doubt that there is a passenger presence sensor installed into the trunk like here is in the passenger front seat. There is no way for the vehicle to know that there is a child in the trunk. This has got to be the single largest bone headed thing to change.
  2. While this seems to be your go to statement I live an hour and a half from the dealership it takes 2 month to get an appointment with a loaner vehicle am I not supposed to operate my vehicle for 2 months? if not how would I get to work?.. I also want to throw in here the last time the car went to service it was there for 5 days and nothing got fixed. one part back ordered and the other part that took the 5 days to get was the wrong part. So now I have to drive 1.5 hours to get the car and 1.5 hours back to drive yet another 1.5 hours to drop the car off again and 1.5 hours back and 1.5 hours there again to get the car and 1.5 hours back again. Little obnoxious isn't it? I have an appointment with them at the end of the month to get the 2 hopefully correct parts installed into the car. I scheduled that appointment 3 weeks ago and I have 2 more weeks to wait. I cannot open another service request until this one is complete. I was told that is because of how Lincoln handles warranty claims. So I can't have them look at the car for the noise problem while they have it. once the claim for the 2 parts has been closed I can open a new one which will require a new appointment set out at least a month and if I want a loaner vehicle I have to wait even longer. Now if there is something wrong that is extensive enough that I should not drive the car how would I get it to the dealership to have the 2 parts installed to be able to open a new claim for the sound above. I would have to tow the vehicle down there, then tow it back to my house and then tow it back down there yet again. AAA isn't going to cut it, and good luck getting a tow driver that is willing to drive that far with the rates that AAA pays them. Had that happen to me before. See the problem? So I need to know what could cause a sound like that and then from there I can determine if it is something easily fixed and if it is I will fix it. If it is not then I will have to then tip toe about Lincoln's service procedures and figure out how to get this new issue resolved and also how to get the vehicle down to them if it is unsafe to operate. But I cannot form a plan without knowing the possible cause. I have never heard a sound like that come from a vehicle before. My wife was driving the car when it was doing it and I am lucky enough I got the video I have with the audio of the sound. She had a total of 10 videos and in all but one video she is holding the phone out the window while driving along at 40. The only thing you can hear is the wind. If she is unable to make a video there is in no way I can ask her questions like "does the tone change with speed" or "does it change when you step on the brakes or turn the steering wheel" I will get responses like "I think maybe it might change a little." which offers zero help. I am hoping that someone else might be able to give me something more then "bring it to the dealer" because at this point my friend that is simply not an option. Had I known that this whole ordeal with how Lincoln handles their warranty work and had I know that I was going to have this issue I would have elected to hold off on getting the other things repaired. and one of those things is going to get me a ticket because my DRL flashes like a turn signal whenever it wants. So I am trying to not have that happen either.
  3. that gap combined with the body lines on the roof just above the doors form a rain gutter that is supposed to keep water from coming into the window or into the door so you can enter and exit the vehicle without having water form the roof roll off onto you. The amount of water that comes in is close to I would say a 16oz up of water... It will do it even if the car is not moving. So say for some reason you have to wait in your vehicle for a while. like picking someone up from the airport and their flight is late. Only parking is uncovered. You wait in the car. You shut the car off and you crack the window to keep it from getting stuffy in the car while you wait. as soon as you start the car the wipers turn on and if your leg is within 2" of the door panel you get that 16 oz of water that comes right in the window all over the door, the window switches and memory seat switches take a bath and ya get soaked. That is a very real scenario and is not far fetched. Next time you wash your car leave the windshield beaded up with water. turn the wipers fully off turn the car on and open the window 1". close the door and turn the wipers on see how much water comes in the window. It only happens when the wipers wipe the windshield. I do not like air conditioning all that much (except for the a/c seats) I don't even own one for my house. If you leave the windows rolled up and it's raining and don't have the a/c on the windows will fog up. opening the drivers window 1" is not enough to get the buffeting from the air pressure when driving and it's enough to keep the car from fogging up. It is not pleasant to be getting a cup full of water thrown on ya every time the wipers wipe the windshield. Again, this does not happen on my Lincoln MKS and I am inquiring to know if there is an issue with the trim on the side of the windshield and do i need to bring it in for service to have to fixed (hour and 30 minute drive each way) or is it the way the car is designed and I have to get rain guards??? I am working from experience with my other Lincoln as that is the only thing I have to compare to. If it is how it is designed we are then back to why would they change something that worked perfect...
  4. If you lived where I live you would know what it's like to live in a place that has very little light pollution. When there is no moon you can literally see ZERO unless you have some kind of light. Now while the puddle light might shine on the opposite side of the door it would illuminate no where' near the tire. My puddle lights light up the ground right at the B pillar of the car and is no more then 2" off the body of the car. When opening the door there would be more then enough stray light from the lamp to light the ground up as you are opening up the door. You would be able to see everything and anything as the door was opening. Without the puddle light the floor of the car casts a shadow on the ground from the interior lights turning on when you open the door. You can't see anything below the sill of the door because of that shadow and how blinkin dark it can be at night here. I want to meet the rocket scientist that designed the puddle lights to function the way they do. why change something that doesn't need to be changed. On my Lincoln MKS they light up when you open the door (either outside or in doesn't matter) or when you unlock the doors. There is no fancy Lincoln logo but they worked very well and it was a light that is about as bright as a map light inside the car. Nice and simple and they really lit up the ground around the car so you could see something like a small animal or a stick or something from 15 feet away from the car. I am going to have to rewire the lamps so they turn on when the door gets opened or unlocked period.
  5. Don't get me started on that subject. The first words out of my mouth were "what did you hit this time". I swear she tries to run over as many pot holes as she can. The 2010 MKS we have we got when it had 50,000 on the clock. It was 3 years old so it was mostly highway driving. That car treated us well even with all of the crap my wife ran over with it that is why we decided to get another Lincoln. picked that guy up for 15,000.00 8 years ago and was worth every penny. I told the wife we needed a new car because the MKS was getting up there in age and I wanted her to have a vehicle that was a lower chance of dying on her. The real reason why is because she rear ended an SUV with my winter beater (93 Subaru Legacy). she claims she was going less then 40 but you don't get 25 foot skid marks from 40mph. Needed to get something that would stomp on the brakes for her if needs be. I just took a quick peek at the dust shield on the brakes. It is really close on the top and has a much larger gap on the bottom but it doesn't look like it was hitting. hard to tell without pulling the tire. I drove it and couldn't get it to make the sound. There are only 2 things that I know of that would make a sound similiar to that. one is the dust shield and the other is a power steering pump, tho I have only heard mechanical ones go bad and the sound has a lower tone to it, maybe the electric ones have a higher tone. IDK. I will pull the tire out in the morning and take a peek at the back of the rotor on the drivers side. It could have been a rock that found it's way between the shield and the rotor. I am going to check the rotor for scoring.
  6. While I did check for that squeak and I do have it, it is not the sound that is occurring. When I spoke to my wife on the phone she called it a squeak and it turn out it is a weee bit more then a squeak. I posted a thread and there is a video clip so you can hear it.
  7. This started today while my wife was driving the car. Anyone wanna take a stab at it because I sure as hell can't think of anything that would make a noise like that. My MKS has been acting up with stalling randomly (no codes have been set) so I am down one out of 2 cars and then this started. Need to know if it is OK to drive. My best guess is the dust shield behind the brake rotors, my wife swears she didn't run anything over but she spaces out when she drives and doesn't remember hitting something. I had a black streak on my Solstice that went from the bottom of the bumper cover to the middle of the hood.I questioned it and she said at firs that she didn't hit anything and then it was she ran over a piece of retread. She hit a whole damned tire is what happened. Things were bent behind the bumper cover. The tires were just replaced by the dealership last week and the car was only driven from there to home and hasn't moved until today. There is no rust or anything like that on the rotors.
  8. I didn't see anything in the memory seat section of the manual regarding linking the key fob but maybe it's under the key fob section or I missed it saying anything about it. It would have made more sense to automatically link the key fob that unlocked the doors or started the car if pressing the button to store a new seat position.Simple things made overly complex for no reason.
  9. My seat button says A/C on them. They are cooled not ventilated. I know the are cooled because of how cold the "boys" get after about an hour. It takes 40-45 minutes before the butt starts to get cold but when it does it's like they have been put into the freezer. I end up turning it off because it is too cold even on it's lowest setting. The issue is it takes so bloody long to get to that point most drives are over before then. The seat back gets warmer when the cooled seats are turned on. Both the drivers and the passengers seat do this.
  10. I am not trying to diagnose it at all and the vehicle is under Warranty. I want to know how common an issue it is. There is no TSB for it but that doesn't mean anything either.
  11. Does the memory seat move to the position for the driver that set the seat position and had only their key in the vehicle when setting the memory for the position? My wife is short and I am taller and have long legs. every time I get in the car as the driver with or without her and her key present the seat always moves to her position. It squishes me into the dashboard every time. I had though that if only my key was present in the vehicle and I set the memory seat position for the second driver if I unlocked the car with my remote or if my key fob was the only one detected by the system it would set the position for me. I need clarification on this because I have not been able to get it to function this way.
  12. I am having an issue with the cooled portion of my seats. When I turn it on it takes about 40 minutes before it gets cold and only the butt gets cold. The seat back actually gets hot. Anyone experience this or have any information they can share?
  13. On the drivers and passengers side of the car along the edge of the windshield there is a rain gutter. Is this a functional rain gutter? I need to know if maybe mine is positioned incorrectly. When the wipers wipe if the drivers window is opened even a little bit the driver takes a bath literally. The amount of water that comes in seems like it is all of the water the wiper removed from the glass. I know there are rain guards available from both Lincoln and aftermarket and I will not purchase them because they are held on with double side tape. WeatherTech has rain guards in R&D for the MKZ that will clip into the window frame and is not held on by double side tape. I have a 2010 MKS that does not have this issue and I would really prefer to not have to use rain guards on my MKZ. Just want to know what other peoples experiences are.
  14. OK so this is probably going to one of those question that I am already thinking i know the answer to. The puddle lights, the ones that shoot the Lincoln logo on the ground. When do those turn on? The only time they seem to turn on is when I unlock the car.. This is would be a really dumb design if that is the case. The purpose to them is to see a puddle. Chances are a person would see a puddle if they are walking up to the car from the exterior. They may not see it when exiting the vehicle and this is when the lights is the most important. My Lincoln MKS has puddle lights and they light up any time the door is opened and it is night time out OR when it is night time and you unlock the doors. I have all of the lighting options turned on in the informant. Maybe there is something wrong with mine?
  15. I had this sound a few weeks ago. My car is still under the bumper to bumper so they will be replacing the muffler if hat is what is making the sound.
