  1. THX bbf, I hadn't thought of the cost difference. Agreed on the tire width. "Back in the day" I had a rear wheel drive '76 Celica GT (could get stuck on wet leaves) and back then you could easily get retread snow tires and steel wheels for a lot of cars through the local Firestone dealer. I'd take the four US slotted aluminum wheels w/60 series BFG ATs off and put on the steel wheels w/78 series Farmer Brown's and three 80lb plastic bags of Morton water softener salt every Fall. ☺️
  2. Good info, thanks. I've got a '2017 w/factory 19" wheels & Michelins, depending on what comb wheel/tire pkgs. Is there any reason to go with 18" taller sidewall over the current 19" size? I figure since I'll be going with all four at a time with winter only tires, there's no need to consider rotation schedules. Any thoughts? Tire Rack usually has some good deals and I'm wondering if there's some past experience with the 18" vs 19" when it comes to "snow tires". Edit; yes, I've read the TRack recommendations on going with the 18", but always interested in what others with the same car have to relate. Thx.
  3. Ok, that's a Yugo, or a Rabbit or a Horizon. Or an Omni. ☺️ All yucks aside, the MKZ, Accord, Hyundai something and even the Impala look more and more alike when parked side by side in a dark parking lot. Yes, those of us who own an MKZ and know the little details know what to look for, but overall it's getting like trying to tell refrigerators apart compared to a few decades ago. I have de-badged few cars in the past including my GXP Solstice (if they don't know what the dual exhaust and extra front grills mean, I'm ok with that) but I honestly feel the classiest part of the back of our cars is the spread out "Lincoln" script across the back.
  4. Looks nice, but how will people know that it isn't a Hyundai or Toyota, maybe even an Impala? Don't know how I'd find mine in low light if it didn't say Lincoln across the back.
  5. Ugh, I'm getting a sore neck-walked the laptop out to the driveway, where my black one is parked. Back and forth, back and forth. When I look at your pics, I like yours better, when I look at my car, I like IT better. Finally gave up and decided coin toss goes to the status quo. Looks good, though, and it's your grin that counts.
  6. Good time to run for office! (don't feel bad, we've all been there)
  7. While this particular piece doesn't appeal to me, glad there are folks out there making stuff for the MKZ. I like the OEM look that blends in nicely. I wish the BU light was else where, instead of breaking up the red line of the taillights. The BU light looks like dead red LEDs at night IMHO. Lots of Caddies sporting the red lights with gaps look from bad LEDs.
  8. That's nice, I like how the chrome around the lower grilles blends into it compared to my Black Pearl. Edit, that's funny, Multi, we both were typing at the same time, and I wasn't trying to address your post since I hadn't seen it.
  9. Understood, it was 60° and did it in the sun, waited a while for a warm day. IR temp gun showed around 80° surface temp since it's a black car. For what it's worth, I've used VHB a lot and made my living in aftermarket design & mfr. in fiberglass for around a dozen years. The piece just isn't a perfect fit, and is too rigid to easily adapt. I don't know if it's open-molded, LRTM, or even some kind of solid composite piece unless I want to cut it in half. There are adhesives like Plexus that I could use, but it's more important to me that I be able to remove it and restore the original trunk lid appearance with nothing more than various grades of compounds from extra cut rubbing to fine buffing. Appreciate the input, though.
  10. Still sprang back up with the front corners having maybe a .020" between the #M VHB tape and the trunk lid. There's a few things I can pursue, but for now I'll leave it be. ? Though subtle, I really do like the way it's carved out slightly above the brake light, to smoothly integrate around it.
  11. K, just figured it was an easy way to see if the car was even listening ?
  12. Not everything goes as planned. After putting it on and checking everything out, the rearmost edge fits fine, but the leading edge outside corners and a few other spots along the leading edge have just enough of a gap that the 3M VHB doesn't make contact. The spoiler is just rigid enough that pressing it in place sticks it down but it immediately releases from the force, even though everything was scrubbed down with alcohol. Since I had also applied 3 good blobs of adhesive caulk on the flat underside of the spoiler as per instructions, I've had to weight it down and verified with a popsicle stick that the gap is down to the thickness of the VHB (which is thinner than a popsicle stick) and I'll see if it's relaxed into shape tomorrow after a >24 hr. period with 100 lbs+ of weight centered more on the leading edge of the spoiler. If it popped up overnight and the caulk cured like that, I'd have 3 areas where the gaps were being held open by the caulk and I'd have to pull it all apart to remove the caulk. THAT would piss me off. The gaps were worst at this corner on either side, held down in the pic by the weight of 50lbs ice melter bags;
  13. I said I'd post a few more pics after the actual install...
  14. For yucks & giggles, have you tried it via the FOB? Does that function have to be enabled in the vehicle via a steering wheel input?
  15. And THEY didn't even have toilet paper!
  16. Nice, I lived in the REALLY cheap seats, clear across the Sound-in Port Chester. Great memories of the huge waves at Jones during a NE wind. Lived their from around 1959 through 1967. Not being old enough to understand the Dick Van Dyke show was fictional, whenever we would take the New Haven line into the city, I'd look for him or Laura at the New Rochelle platform. On the plus side, I've both Bambi and The Dead at the Capital Theater. Downside? While I looked like Eric Clapton in HS, I'm now taken for Jerry Garcia until they count my fingers.
  17. Well, the waterfront concert season for you now is a lot longer than back a Jones Beach, enjoy! ;)
  18. The gap is more noticeable here, but please don't fault the product, as mentioned above it's just perched loosely on the trunk lid. I'd press hard to compress the foam tape, then jump back to snap a picture and quickly snatch it back up before the stiff breeze could get a chance to knock it off. Parked in my driveway between other vehicles and with their reflections combined with those of bare tree branches overhead, it's certainly not photo gallery material anyway. Just figured I'd show it right away for other black car owners, since it may be a month before I get the right conditions for the install, including staying warm enough overnight for curing the few strategic dots of adhesive caulk recommended with the foam tape.
  19. Here's the car without the spoiler and with. Please note it is just set in place and NOT tight to the body. These kind of parts need to be warm when applied so that they can take a set to the contours of the vehicle where/if needed, like a shoe breaking in the first time you wear it. When I pressed down on either end the way it'd lie when the foam tape was holding it snug, that slight gap you see on the right closes right up. In this picture, it's also leaning back just a hair, so the front edge is maybe 1/8" higher than it will be after installation and acclimation. In short, it appears well made, the paint is a great "G1 Absolute Black Pearl" match, installation was well thought-out from the design stage on, and I know I made the right choice for my taste. Weebee styl'n. ☺
  20. Alrighty, then. Just got my spoiler from 707motoring.com It appears they are a reseller, not the mfr. Critique so far; Arrived in just over a week, including shipping from TX to WI, well bubble wrapped and in a sturdy box. When I opened the box and began to cut the tape holding the bw and began to unwrap it, I was hit with a whiff of acetone so I know either the spoiler or spoiler and paint are recent. (note, I made a living for about 20 years working with fiberglass so I've got a pretty good sense of smell for certain things that might go unnoticed to the general public) I mention it, because as soon as I smelled it I went into microscope mode looking for any paint flaws from being wrapped & shipped fresh. I found a few minute areas of bubble wrap imprinting on the paint surface BUT it's black paint and I was going over it like I was judging a car show ? It's absolutely nothing I'd be upset about, and once it's on the car and warmer weather has let it sun bake a little, I could hit it with a 3" foam wheel and some 3M Finesse-it Extra Fine compund. The adhesive foam (3M VHB?) is pre-applied, a very nice touch.
  21. Some people stopped shaking hands for fear of the virus, I stopped for fear they stopped using toilet paper. ☺
  22. That seems to be what I'm "entitled" to for my 2017, the opportunity to purchase an upgrade that will apparently still be outdated, only less so. My current (original) Nav version is NA 1 15, so I assume that's a 2015 release still used in 2017 builds? Pretty lame for a flagship nameplate. I think I'll put the money towards a new Garmin.
  23. Thanks! I'll put that on my short list to look at, hopefully tomorrow.
