  1. That'll save me some trouble. I noticed this morning (it was raining) that the left side lamp was flickering- the middle row would stay illuminated and the upper and lower rows were picking and choosing to light up. I should be OK- the car is still within the parameters of the extended warranty.
  2. Congrats! I love the way the current Lincolns look- styling elements of mini Bentley and angry Jag. Maybe in 8 years or so I can think of trading the '10 for a '17 o '18 model. ?
  3. That's one thing I like about my 2010- the battery is right there in the open where I can get to it. Yes, engine bay heat will kill it... but so will all of the electronic doodads on the car depending on how you have things set up. I'm not expecting this battery to last 7 or 8 years like in other vehicles I've owned. I'd rather have the battery in a place where it's accessible rather than buried under the seat, or even behind a front wheel well like on some cars. If I have proper hood clearance mine will end up with an Optima, or some other type of gel-cell battery.
  4. I am. I've already told co-workes "I can't go back to driving junkers", and that was on the second day I had it. ?
  5. This leads me to a question I have about the tail lights on my '10. In the pic below, you can see that the center strip of LEDs are lit along the width of the car, but the passenger's side tail lamp has all three rows lit. Should they all be lit like that when just the head lights are on or should it be just the center strip like the rest of the lamps? Edit- it appears that only the center row should be lit. When the brakes come on all three rows light up- the right lamp gets brighter. Found a post way back from 2015 where an owner was having the same thing happen. I'm guessing since I'm not the original owner the 10 year warranty on the taillight assemblies wouldn't apply.
  6. OK... I searched the forum and didn't find anyone else with this... issue? I don't want to call it a problem because the lock and handle work just fine, it's more something that just annoys me a tad. Here's what I mean... This is with the door close and unlocked. You can see that the lock button is angled outward like it would be, but the handle itself is angled inward, instead of being flush with the edge of the plastic bezel. And here we are locked, with the door closed. The lock switch is about where it should be but no change in the position of the handle. I'm guessing I'm dealing with a loose or worn internal linkage. Or could it be a problem with the handle assembly itself? There is a very slight bind with the plastic bezel when using the handle, just about at the very end of it's travel. Has anyone else had this happen? Like I said... I wouldn't even call this a problem per se, just something that's going to bother me every time I see it. ?
  7. They do what they're meant to do on muggy days- keep your hind end from adhering to the seat. They don't feel like they do much but turn them off and drive for an hour straight and you'll notice the difference.
  8. I still daydream about a Lincoln based on the current Mustang platform. Call the 2-door version a Mark 9 if you want. ? That would give them a RWD luxury performance offering to go up against the likes of BMW and Lexus, and the Cadillac CTS. Just take the Mustang platform, refine the ride, re-skin it and appoint the interior and I think they'd really be onto something. Sure, the market for luxury SUV's is viable, but you can't get away with an all-luxury-SUV lineup unless you're Land Rover. Come to think of it- if the Mustang platform could be adapted to house AWD, you could probably use it to underpin a pretty good performance-oriented CUV too.
  9. Thanks guys! jmcgliss- I'm hoping this one won't have to spend much time IN the workshop. I bought a five year 100k warranty with it, so for the time being, I'll let the pros work on it when/if something on it breaks. fusionff- I usually park on the far end of the lot anyway, as it helps me avoid the blur of people in a hurry to leave at 3PM. The last couple days of last week I did park up near the building though, to help the crowds see the car better. ? Word that Chuck got a Lincoln spread pretty quick and now everybody wants to check her out. bbf2530- I do have the manuals for it, I just happened to be online and thought "I could walk out to the car and get the manual, or I could do a little googling from the comfort of my easy chair" so that's what I did. ? And yes, I did find the info I needed here, plus quite a bit more. And thanks to this forum Lincoln might be getting a few bucks from me via their accessories department- that first aid kit seems like it would be handy, and it matches the car. ?
  10. Wednesday afternoon, two days after my trusty (and rusty) Subaru Impreza decided to shed part of it's rear sub frame on the road, I went home with a gently-used '10 Sterling silver MKZ. And now you know where I came up with my screen name. ? I was actually looking around for info on the jukebox setting on the stereo when I found this forum. I registered for an account and poked around a bit and realized I'd forgotten my manners and didn't even bother to say hello first. My real name is Chuck and my MKZ isn't my first Lincoln. In high school I had an '81 Town car that was beyond thrashed, but I still adored that floaty old barge of a car, with it's glitchy electronic dash and severely misaligned driver door. That car more or less set the tone for every vehicle that followed... with a few exceptions, every vehicle I owned from then on was a beater. After about 20 years of that, and the Subaru giving up the ghost, I thought it was time to treat myself. I've wanted a Lincoln forever, and had looked at various Town Cars and FWD Continentals, but I kept going back to the MKZ. I knew a new one was out of the question, but when I saw this one on a local dealer's website, I could not pass it up. The fact that my father and two of his uncles were big time Lincoln guys only cemented the deal. And the best part of any Lincoln is that it's not a Cadillac... always a plus in my book. ? About the car... it's an all-wheel-drive model with the 3.5 Duratec. Since listing all of it's features would take me all night, I'll list what it doesn't have. It does not have the moonroof, chrome wheels, or the six-disc in-dash changer. Other than that I think it's about as loaded as an MKZ could have been in 2010. It has 112,000 miles and shows only the slightest signs of wear- there's a bit of a scuff on the front bumper fascia, a few nicks in the paint on the hood, but nothing that really detracts from the looks too much. I don't trust my touch-up skills much, so I'll likely find a pro to do that stuff for me. Other than that I'm just hoping to keep it looking and running as well as it possibly can. Here it is in front of my grandfather's old work shop. It's not the first time a Lincoln has graced that spot and I don't want it to be the last. And here it is at a local park pavilion. I noticed that the Lincoln badges on the driver's side hubcaps were oriented in the exact same position and was amused enough by that random thing that I snapped a pic. Look closely and you can see the scuff in the front bumper, just below the headlight. The only downside to owning my MKZ so far has been that, after years of driving junk, I have to readjust my habits a bit. No more blasting down dirt roads... 20 MPH is the fastest I go on the last 1/8 mile home from work. No more blindly throwing open the door at the gas station, no care in the world if I hit the pallet of windshield washer solvent or whatever with the door. And no more bi-annual wash and wax sessions! This car deserves better.
  11. First time I took a friend for a ride in my MKZ we amused ourselves by going back and forth spouting off nonsensical stories and quotes from Texas Chainsaw Massacre- The Next Generation in our best McConaughey voices.
  12. I haven't come up with a name for mine yet, though I've had a few cars in the past that had a nickname. Most recently, a Subaru Impreza called Snowball. For now I just call her "my blue collar dream realized". But that's a bit ponderous, no? ? I REALLY like that. :)
