  1. Has anyone upgraded from the 2016 Sync 2 to Sync 3 and used a 2017 radio bezel? The 2016 bezel does not have the same controls as the 2017< has. It is mostly HVAC control. The screen should still have the controls.
  2. Hello, Has anyone ever successfully integrated their as-built software with software from a later version? I own a 2016 MKZ hybrid and want to change my sync 2 to sync 3. I bought the proper hardware and have downloaded my as-built software from Ford, but I also downloaded the software for both 2017 and 2019 hybrid vehicles. Another purchase i made is a 2017 MKZ radio cover with the knobs and push button switches. I doubt if the newer cover works with my 2016 Apim software. Additionally, I Want to add the reverse mirror dipping And auto fold When the vehicle is turned off. There are also other things I would like to have such as the parking lights flashing when a valid key fob is near the vehicle. i own Factory MKZ hybrid wiring diagrams for the years 2013 to 2019. The biggest difference are some newer modules but none that should make a difference. Has anyone tried anything like this before using ForScan? Would LIncoln Void my warranty, and would automatic software update not work? I am almost totally paralyzed, so this keeps my mind going. thank you.
  3. OK. What i need is someone who has extensive knowledge of the software, not necessarily just program the apim. I own a 2016 MKZ hybrid but I have found a 2019 hybrid that is basically identical except for a change in the software. So I need a person who can tell me if the 2019 software can be used or integrated together with my 2016. I went even further by purchasing a 2017 radio cover in order to be able to use the added controls and push-button switches. I have my as-built software from the Ford website, but I also have the software from two newer similar vehicles. I liked the newest version but my vehicle doesn’t have all the same modules as the newest one has. I could easily use the same software that originally came with my car but can the later software be used? The lower Ford models are easily changed but my car has every option available except for four and only one could be a problem. Lincoln will not help. I am even looking into auto schools to see if they have some Ford software classes. Even books would help, but try finding them. Thank you again.
  4. Do you know if he works for Ford? I am interested in getting more information about the software in the vehicle. There are also many videos on the Ford F-150 and they mentioned a spreadsheet depicting the different modifications to the truck but also warned that it may not work for every vehicle. It does not hurt to ask, so thank you for the information. I will see if the link works later. Thank you
  5. Thank you Mulitask, I bought the apim with the touchscreen from a recycling yard and the rest from Amazon (Forscan devices) and from my dealer (the dual USB socket assembly). There is another online company who also has A reasonable video about this but steers you nowhere when it comes to programmingt the apim. I am almost 95% cripple So I have done nothing about this installation or changing the software. Just getting up is extremely difficult for me. I have the 2013 to 2019 factory wiring diagrams to follow the vehicle progression and through the years found out most newer models are mainly software changes. The mechanics of them have hardly changed at all. However, in 2019 they added a fourth high speed LAN. Making the bringing the total of LANS to five. They also added a police cruiser that is also a hybrid based on the Ford Fusion with different software and lighting. There are many other wires that are not connected as well as a cooled electronics tray in the trunk. It is not a pursuit vehicle, just a hybrid police vehicle.
  6. In order to upgrade from sync 2 to sync 3, both the apim and the touchscreen must be replaced. I bought mine connected together including the connecting wires between them. One reason 3D Tech charges so much is they send you a complete guaranteed package: the apim, the screen, brackets, and everything needed for installation Including the GPS Receiver antenna. I believe it also has the Dual USB connectors for Appleplay and CarPlay, there is also a cable needed for earlier model MKZs. The apim is also pre-programmed for your vehicle. So, it is a plug and play installation. The GPS antenna Is needed because the apim has a separate input connector for it. In the 2017+ models, there is an in-line GPS splitter. The more difficult part is to program the apim. You could do it with Forscan hardware and software. I assume all you need is your VIN specific as-built downloaded software and simply just program the apim. Forscan has all of the information on its website www.forscan.com. I have everything to upgrade, I would like to figure out how to upgrade my other modules as well. I don’t know where to get more information on the vehicle’s software. i spent about $350.00 on a 2019 apim and screen, and about $50.00 for forscan devices, another $12.00 for the GPS antenna, and $60.00 for the correct USB connector. i also bought a 2017 radio cover with the volume and tune controls and would like them to work as well . THAT I NEED HELP WITH. Also, can I use software from a later model similar equipped MKZ as well? Is it illegal to change the electric VIN to a different year? If the VIN is not changed, will the vehicle still automatically update software and maps? thank you.
  7. I leased a new MKZ hybrid and the 12 volt battery In the trunk would die if the vehicle was not used for 20 days. The manual said 30 days, so there was a problem. I took it to the dealer numerous different times but they could not fix it. So it was deemed a lemon.and the settlement was closed, so I cannot discuss it anymore. All I can say is it was never fixed. My 2016 MKZh has no issues even after 40 days l. The 2016 has much better software for battery management compared to the 2014 vehicle. It has a deep sleep mode which requires an electric start only by the internal start push button. That works very well and I have had no problems with this vehicle. i would like to add an amateur radio to this vehicle, but it draws 20 amps from the 12 volt battery, and 100 watts Rf Output which is high and is not recommended by LIncoln. iIn 2019 the Fusion was modified as a new police cruiser with a trunk mounted electronics tray with extra cooling fans. There are other modifications as well. This wiring adds more High current power taps with at least 3 - 20A fuse power taps added .The 12 volt battery Is the same in all vehicles including the MKZh, all hybrid Fusions, and the Ford PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric vehicle). The wiring diagram shows the same battery and in the same location. it is not a police high speed pursuit vehicle but a police standard patrol vehicle. There may be a different set of internal software in the modules because I saw a video on this.It is confusing because you would think that the vehicle would have a larger capacity battery for a patrol car.
  8. The easiest way is to get a copy of the dealer sticker and look on the left to see the technology package listed under Options. Another way is is to look for a good picture of the lower left hand side of the steering wheel. The inner button shows two lines with different arrows on each line. One shows arrows pointing in for closer and the other shows arrows pointing out for further. That shows a radar module is installed in the front of the vehicle. But, that really shows the vehicle is equipped with adaptive cruise control. On a 2017 that also means the vehicle has the technology package. If you can get the vehicle to start, as you press the start button, look straight ahead and down. You should see the red bar on the windshield. This is a test feature of the vehicle.
  9. Hello. i own a 2016 MKZ Hybrid with original sync 2. I have the parts to change it to sync 3, but the I know the software in the apim must be changed. I have read about this change however there is nothing really about this procedure that I have found regarding the software. I do have questions about this and I was wondering if I could do an upgrade to another year. I have downloaded three different year vehicles, a 2017, 2019, and my 2016 as built Data. I have been comparing the vehicles and I also purchased a 2017 radio cover. I would also like to use this as well. Can anyone help or know where I can get help? thank you.
  10. From what I read, from the 2018 models all new maps re a free update on to an internal hard rrive. I don't know if it uses your phone to input this information/ If I am not mistaken, there are no SD maps in a 2018 MKZ.
  11. I had a2015 MKZ Hybrid with an A8 map in it. I changed it to an A7 and found no difference between them. I would not put a lot of trust in any of them. Google has my house 2-1/2 blocks to the west while Ford is right on. The map software may tell you to turn on a street that does not exist.
