  1. Yes. I've found the same thing with the paddle shifters. They are basically worthless. I never thought about the automatic trunk closing when I started this thread but yes, it does have an annoying thunk when closing that last little bit. Since I have a 2014, I thought maybe some of these issues would have been fixed in later models...but maybe not. In my opinion, Ford (and Lincoln) engineers could learn a lot by studying brands like Toyota, Honda, etc. They could even learn from Hyundai. My daughter's Elantra is leagues more refined than a similar year Focus.
  2. That was my question exactly. I would definitely get the AWD version.
  3. Well, my Miata (I had one) and Corvette (I've had three) days are probably behind me, too. But I still like power. I have the 2.0 only because we originally bought the car for my wife. I am currently being tempted by a local dealer that has a V-6 on their lot. Either is plenty quiet for me. Though I used to work in the hearing aid business so I understand about hearing loss. As for parallel parking.....sound like a neat feature but I'm still a do-it-yourselfer at heart so I'm not much for driving (or parking) aids.
  4. You must have some really long legs or something. I can't see how having the seat move forward would make it easier to get out. But I guess everybody is different.
  5. Rubyinla kinda sounds like you would be be happier with the V6, too. Thanks for sharing your experience?
  6. We have the seat that moves backwards and the steering wheel that moves out of the way when you turn it off so that helps with ingress/egress. I never have to try and get in and out of the back seat though. I agree about the "everything else". We do really like the MKZ. That's why when we bought the BMW for my wife we traded in the Volvo and not the Lincoln!
  7. Thanks. I don't think I'm holding them, but I will pay more attention next time I try. It's really not that it doesn't shift, I just get really mushy shifts, not crisp quick shifts. But I will pay more attention to my part of the equation!
  8. Krasnaya, I do not know if the 4 cyl and V6 cars have the same transmission or not. (We have the 4 cyl.) But it might also be a case of what other cars you have driven lately. Our Volvo S60 (transmission made by Toyota) was so much smoother it really was no comparison. And our BMW (ZF transmission I believe) is also quite a bit smoother. The other thing about our MKZ, the paddle shifters are so slow to react they are pretty much worthless. But maybe the V6 has an upgraded transmission vs the 4? Overall we love our car, but the transmission is not and never has been a smooth shifter. Maybe I should upgrade to a V6 model!
  9. This topic may have been done before but since I just started daily driving our MKZ (which we have owned for almost 3 years) a couple months ago after my wife got her BMW, I just wanted to hear what you like best vs what you like least about your MKZ. For me my favorite thing is the overall comfort. I'm getting older and have some hip issues that make a lot of cars difficult for me to be in for any length of time so I truly appreciate the comfort. Last fall we actually did just over 16 hours in one day in the MKZ. There aren't many cars I can be in for that long. My least favorite is the transmission. I dislike the pushbutton shifter immensely and the transmission shifts quite poor for a modern car. The Mazda 3 we traded in for the MKZ shifted far more smoothly as did the Volvo S60 we had and my wife's BMW (a 2016 228i) shifts far more smoothly as well. It seems Ford has yet to master the automatic transmission. That would be my list....what about anyone else?
  10. Congrats on the new ride. I inherited my 2014 from my wife also. We love our MKZ. We have driven it many thousands of miles on some long road trips and it make for a very comfortable cruiser. Wish I had the V6 though!
  11. So my owners manual recommends inspecting the accessory drive belt at 100k miles and replacing at 150k miles. Did I read this right? Seems like an awfully long time for a serpentine belt. Has anyone actually approached that mileage with their original belt?
  12. Ha! Looks like we have the same car. I always thought this was one of the best colors for the MKZ.
  13. Our MKZ only got about 4800 miles all year because my wife was working at home and it was her car. But now she has a new car and I'm driving the MKZ. My commute is 60 miles round trip, 5 days a week. So the mileage will really start to accumulate now. She's a 2014 and just turned 60k. This time next year I expect it will have 80k.
  14. I can tell you I am very happy with how the tires performed. We had 5"-6" of heavy, wet snow by the time I drove home from work. My commute is 30 miles. Most of the drive was on packed, ice covered roads. Quite a bit of deep slush when changing lanes. The tires took it all in stride, handled very well, and stopped very well. No sliding or loose feeling at all. I like them so much I think I might put a set on our BMW also.
  15. Definitely looks like the new tires will get tested today.
  16. Minneapolis. Not entirely unusual to have some snow this early. We already had a bit last weekend. It won't stay around long and will mostly melt on contact with the ground because the ground is still pretty warm. But if it comes down hard & fast enough, it could make the roads pretty slick.
  17. Just got some new tires mounted up. The old Hankooks were pretty badly worn and with winter knocking on the door, it was time. Went with Falken Ziex ZE960 all seasons. So far I'm very happy with the choice. The Falkens are a good mid-range price point with a 65k mile warranty. They ride smooth and handle better than the Hankooks. We're supposed to get up to 5 inches of snow tomorrow so I may get to explore the winter handling sooner than expected.
  18. Congrats on the new MKZ. I am curious if you got the vibration fixed. Last time I had a new Ford product with a vibration, they were never able to fix it. But that was in 1993. Hope you had a better outcome.
  19. Welcome. And I agree with the last poster about the stuff to check. Once you find the right car I'm sure you'll be happy with it for a long time. We sure like ours.
  20. We averaged 29.2 on the highway, and we average about the same as you around town. Don't know where you get your oil changed, but just the oil and filter cost me $39 at Wal-Mart. I use full synthetic and it takes 5.7 quarts. I have trouble trusting my $40,000 car to the cheapest oil put in by an 18 year old kid with 6 minutes of training down at the local Jiffy Lube so I just do my own oil changes. ;)
  21. We've had our 2014 MKZ Reserve for a couple months now but this weekend we finally took our first road trip in it. Just a little 3 hour drive up to Duluth and then back. The car performed flawlessly but was maybe hoping for a little better MPG. Upon our return I changed the oil for the first time. Wish Ford would've included an access panel instead of requiring that the whole under engine tray come out with its 11 screws and two clips. That's not going to be fun when I need to change the oil in the middle of winter. None-the-less, overall we like the MKZ quite a bit and hope it proves to be as reliable as it is comfortable.
