I think CVTs have come a long way. In the new Subaru’s (and the Nissan Altima I’ve rented a lot lately), both have a CVT that doesn’t call attention to itself, and it’s easy to forget that it is a CVT at all.
I tend to ignore car reviews anymore, especially ones that focus on performance, handling, etc. I don’t care about any of that, the Legacy drove great for what I want out of a car. I am coming to trust Edmunds customer reviews the most because they are most honest about what is right or wrong about a car (for example, the much praised Acura RDX is one of the worst reviewed cars I’ve seen by Edmunds consumer reviewers). That, and specific car forums such as this.
My only complaints about the Subaru are the start/stop system, and USB ports that are difficult to access.
