  1. Has anyone done the TSB 14-0204? https://testing-public.carmd.com/Tsb/Download/105643/tsb14-0204 My 2014 3.7L FWD continues to set the PO430 SES light. My mechanic is afraid to replace the cat (Bank 2) until this TSB is completed. An aftermarket cat from him is around $250, guessing $1200 from the dealer. He says that the computer reflash for the TSB might even resolve the issue. The code pops up radomly, sometimes after 100 miles, other times going 300 miles or so to the light comes on.
  2. I was relieved to see the 2014 date on the battery when it was pulled. A new battery is a lot cheaper to replace than any of the other related systems components and diagnostics.
  3. That makes me feel more confident, thanks for the replies. I'll report back if I have any more difficulties.
  4. I have a 3.7 FWD '14 which has 112k miles. Last week, at the airport, I had the ignition on and playing the radio while waiting for my wife's plane (dumb, now I know to press & hold the radio button). Sure enough, after she lands ,the battery is dead. (I get the message "Shutting battery off due to discharge" or similar, just before it goes dark). I jump start it (no small miracle, in a cell phone parking lot at 10 PM at a major airport). It starts right up and I have no further issues. The next day, I take it to Advance to check the battery and alternator. The battery shows 665 cca's and 14.4 v with the car running. The guy says my battery is good. I drive it the full week without issues. Sunday night, I wash and vacuum it, leaving all four doors open for an extended period of time, perhaps 25 minutes or so. The next morning, dead battery. It jump starts without issue and I have no issues the rest of my work day. I take it to Advance and it shows the same specs as the week previous. We cannot see any marks on the battery, and by the looks of it, I'm assuming it is the original (I bought the car in 2016 with 14,000 miles on it) I decide to get a battery anyway. The battery is easier to remove than it looks and it does show it was the original from 2014. Of course it starts right up. I'm curious what the techs here thought of what has happened to this point. Time will tell if I have any other issues.
  5. I just wondered if anyone else here had the same code and what was the outcome (02 sensors or Cat(s)). I'm out of warranty...111k on my 2014
  6. My 2014 3.7L has had the PO430 code pop up twice now in a week. My local service station rest it last week, and suggested I wait and see if it returns It popped back up after about 400 miles of driving. I only have the PO430, not PO420 code, as this diagnostic defines: https://testing-public.carmd.com/Tsb/Download/105643/tsb14-0204 Has anyone else experienced this?
  7. Those are running lights, not foglights. They are designed to go out, when you use the turn signal. That is the normal function.
  8. Wow, that was a great find. Manuals for this platform seem hard to find. The last picture is an electrical diagram manual I found from a Lincoln dealer, 500 pages of all the wiring and modual components in these cars.
  9. I should have also added that all brake pads look 3/8" or so thick, like new. Typically, in previous cars, I've needed new front pads at 80-90k, so this is new territory. They could go at least 120k, from a visual (I'll mic them on the next tire rotation.
  10. And I bought the Green because of the recent issues reported with K&N's. I've used K&N drop-in and CAI's for over 20 years, with zero MAF/CEL issues, I should have stuck with them.
  11. I purchased my 2014 3.7L FWD in June of 2016, it had 15k on it. Last week, I hit the 100k mark. I typically drive 55k or so annually, for work but 2017 was a softer year. So far, here are my observations and experiences - 2 Trips to the dealer - the drivers side axle seal was leaking, it took a 2nd time to get it right (just a mist), now tight - the trunk lid wasn't opening/closing correctly - I'm averaging 26.3 mpg over the life of the vehicle and I'm pleased with that result. - I do oil/filter changes every 10k, with Penzoil Platinum Pure Synthethic and PureOne filters.. I had Blackstone do an analysis at the 50k mark, and they suggested even longer change intervals. I do it myself, so I'll stick with 10k. I have to add 1/2 a quart in 10k, usually around the 6k mark - I'm on my 3rd set of tires and I'm a bit more careful to rotate every 5k. The factory Michelins were toast at 25k, a replacement set of Kuhmo's only went 50k. The car has a now has a pedestrian set of General's, which are doing OK and performed well in snow and rain. - no electronic issues in the cabin. - the leather is holding up OK, but not as well as the leather in my Nissan Altima SL it replaced (the LIncoln leather is more comfortable/supple, so that makes sense). - I still can't see when parking it! (wish the 2014 has those front camera/sensors) - The paint and wheels are holding up well, I wax it about 3-4 x's a year, usually with Mothers Cleaner/wax or Meguiars (too lazy to polish, wax these days...)
  12. Well, I've put on about 700 miles since last weekend. The CEL has not returned. On Sunday, I cleaned the MAF and throttle body. I typically do this when the air-cleaner is cleaned and re-oiled, but did not in this instance. I guess I'll find out if the I solved the problem, or just delayed it. Thanks for all of the input, it's great to have input from pro technicians.
  13. Power Decklid is "Enabled". The switch is virtually useless so not an issue for me, but odd nonetheless.
  14. Oh yeah, I discovered a surprise last night. I was reading about folks still having the chime on their recalibrated trunks via the bumper button. I never use that, as it is just above my license plate and might as well be on the ground. I wondered if my bumper button chimed. Well, my bumper button doesn't work at all.
  15. I guess you are right, it probably would. I live out in the country and was thinking about winding, hilly country roads. I wouldnt use cruise control in that kind of situation, the paddle shifters leave me in complete control
  16. Thanks Willy. I miss my old OBD-2 program, that had several 02 sensor monitoring features. I'll had Advance again tomorrow, ran out of time this evening. I did happen to clean and re-oil my Green air filter last weekend ,and wondered if that wasn't the issue. (I was pretty careful to not over-oil, but who knows). I usually clean the TB and MAF on those task but didn't last weekend, I hope that didn't bite me (well, that would be an easy fix). I bought the Green precisely because of all the MAF issues being reported lately with K&N filters. I've used a K&N in all my vehicles since the early 90's without any issues, perhaps I should have stuck with them... More to come!
  17. I like being able to downshift and hold a gear. I drive a lot on snowy road and its great to get some engine braking on a downhill ascent, etc. The paddle shifters work for this, and I can see you missing that feature.
  18. Well, there is definitely no wire tears or issues with the connections. Curiously, on the right bank sensor, the three wires an 1" from the sensor has a small zip tie. The other side does not. I wonder if someone did have some issues? (that doesn't strike me as factory). Still no CEL. I'll run it up to Advance again and see if there are any pending codes (hoping their reader will see that?). I wish that I hadn't ditched my old OBD program, but it was in a very old laptop and used a printer port connect for the OBD II connection (to the laptop). No new laptops have those type of ports. (but it did still boot up fine). Lesson learned. I know that these programs are on phone app's now. I'll have to investigate that option. (or love feedback from users).
  19. Guys, I need to apologize for the way I came off. I clearly didn't word my request correctly. I completely realize that the chance that both 02 sensors went bad simultaneously is slim to none. I had no intention of throwing away $225 on new 02 sensors. I have well over 1 million miles in three, modern-era vehicles with zero 02 sensor failures (which were pretty common in the 90's). So, I was just wondering what the instance here was of 02 failure and it there was any pattern on the 3.7L motor. If someone replied that "we replace them routinely", that would give me consideration to think about replacing them. Having said all that, the car continues to show no more codes. I'm crawling under it now, to check the wires and connectors. You may remember that I had an ice jam under the under-tray back in January. I gave the underneath a cursory examination back then and didn't see anything amiss. Thanks for sticking with me and I apologize if I came off like an ass-hat, I can communicate better than that.
  20. Thanks Medium, I understand how the work. I had a ODBII code reader/programmer for my laptop, but I haven't had a code for 15 years, so i ditched the laptop last year. I just wondered if it was odd to get a code on both banks. The code went out and hasn't returned (likely it will). Wish I still had my reader, which showed pending codes, and of course the code itself. But, without the FSM, it's kind of spitting into the dark. I was hoping a tech might chime in and see if this was a reocurring program. Has anyone replaced an 02 sensor on a 2014? Guessing I'm the high mileage guy on that powertrain?
  21. My 2014 3.7L literally has 452 miles beyond the 100k warranty....and the check engine light comes on. I stopped an Advance Auto and they read the code as both upstream 02 sensors (guy didn't tell me the PO). I was just under the car last weekend for an oil change and while I didn't examine the harness, I saw nothing awry. New sensors are $130 each from Advance. I was going to check the harness and connections tomorrow, than order if they look intact. On the 2nd restart, the light went out. I think it is odd that both 02 sensors would throw a code at the same time? That leads me to believe it's not each sensor going bad. My last two cars had 800k on them (03 & 08) and I sold them with the original 02 sensor, so to me, this seems odd. Also of late, my MPG has INCREASED by 1.5 or so (as you probably deduced, I drive a lot, so the increase was notable to me). The car was purchase in 2016 with 14k on it. I know we have some technicians here and wondered what they thought about this situation.
  22. Got it, thanks! Is that FB group (page?) connected with this forum? I found another FB page, "MKZ Enthusiasts" but haven't examined it closely (an early peak reveals some nonsense posts).
  23. I didn't know there was a Facebook group, what is the name?
  24. FWIW, my trunk fix held thru some incredibly cold temps here in the Mid-Atlantic.
