    Key Fob Upgrade

I don't mind the newer ones. Especially when a cute girl comes up and asks, "Is that a Lincoln key fob in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?" I respond, "Unfortunately, at my age, it's a key fob."

  3. Just finishing up another road trip in the Mkz. So far we've been in Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, and Missouri. Close to 1400 miles so far. Should do another 400-500 tomorrow before we arrive back home. 30.2 mpg this far and not one issue. It is a great long distance car for sure. Here's a picture from our visit to Churchill Downs.

The End of my 2017 MKZ

He is serving jail time for the actions, and at this point I have no input in regards to his future but I know him hitting me wasn't intentional, which is an important factor on how to judge a person. The foolish mistake was just leaving me there, and that applies to anyone. Honestly what was messing me up prior to this event, was another foul person taking advantage of me financially, intentionally, who I once trusted (we've all been there in some way), and I view worse than the guy who hit me for precisely that difference. I had rid myself of the negative by focusing on my travel job and at least keeping my MKZ which brought joy and still within my budget to maintain. My MKZ was more enjoyable than said person, who tried to get me to drop the car in favor of her...well you see what my choice was when I woke up and got away. I was on my way to my goals of debt freedom, but the loss just accelerated my plans. If you really care for a car and the time spent, it's not easy to replace even with something identical. It's better to go into "fianacial wisdom mode", utilize all the disciplines you know that will better lifestyle in the long run, and be patient with the basic vehicle that gets the job done. Slashing the monthly payment, dropping back to regular fuel, and the place I work at is only 10 mins drive time (no highways so it's not like I'd even enjoy bigger power now). These are boons indeed that do not make me think "I wish time could go back" just to potentially save the car. This present and upcoming future will be better indeed. ...and that gentlemen is how you evolve and become a greater person from tough times!

  9. During this past December, the leasing manager at my dealer, with whom I've been dealing many years, contacted me about ordering a 2020 MKZ. The lease on my 2017 ends on 2/27, and he's aware that there's never a car in their inventory or locator that I'd want. So armed with my X-Plan PIN, I went in near the end of December fully prepared to order. I laid out what I wanted, and he went off to check the X-Plan pricing. He came back with a funny look, so I knew I was in trouble. Bottom line: it would be $100 more per month than I'm paying now. Due to reconfiguration of standard equipment and packages, the MSRP of the 2020 and my 2017 are pretty close. In fact, the 2020 is less even though it has more equipment than my 2017 I was taken aback by this. Why on Earth would I pay $100 more per month for basically the same car. Do I have "schmuck" written on my forehead? This is with X-Plan and a whole host of incentives. There was no reasonable answer for that. It is what it is. At that point, I got up and left after telling him I had some soul-searching to do. In the thread about what your next car would be, I'd mentioned the Genesis G70 Sport. There's a Genesis dealer right up the road from me and when I discussed it with my son, he told me that his very good friend was the sales manager at a Hyundai/ Genesis dealer. Later, he got back to me ad informed me that this dealer no longer sold Genesis, but he gave me the name of a friend of his at another dealer that does. So I made an appointment for a test drive. I drove one equipped exactly as I would want: Sport/AWD. The Sport package includes the Elite and Prestige Packages, which can be had separately, but it includes everything option you can get on this car. All colors are no extra cost. What a concept! You also get 3 years of free maintenance. I absolutely loved the car. It’s a true sport sedan. Rear-biased AWD that can send up to 90% of the power to the rear wheels, 4 different drive modes and Brembo brakes. 0-60 in 4.7 seconds and a 13.0 ¼-mile. Plus a whole bunch of stuff like HUD, wireless phone charging, 360º camera, and a powered decklid that opens if you stand behind it for a certain amount of time with the fob on your person. No need to push the button if your hands are full. What I didn’t like was the very tight back seat and tiny trunk and a couple of other things that didn't make sense. For instance, you can't remote start the car with the fob. You must use your smart phone. This means taking out your phone, going to the app and going through sub menus. I find that to be something of an inconvenience. Sometimes I just want to push the 2 buttons on my fob. After the test drive, we went back inside to talk. The initial offer the sales guy made was just $6 less per month than the price for the MKZ was. I went home and ruminated over all this for a few days. I kept going back and forth comparing the pros and cons of the two cars. The Genesis doesn't have a few things that I'd miss and the MKZ doesn't have some things that the Genesis has. Finally, one Sunday afternoon in early January, I was sitting around and decided that I'd live without some things I've gotten used to on the MKZ in favor of what the G70 has to offer. I was going to call the sales guy to see if he was in and if so, I'd head over there and negotiate in earnest. As I was headed to the phone, it rings and guess what? It's the Lincoln leasing manager. He asks what I'd decided and I told him that I hadn't. He says to forget about X-Plan and makes me an offer I can't refuse for the MKZ with everything I want. So I accepted. End of story: my 2020 MKZ has been built and shipped. Silver Radiance (new color), Terra Cotta/Ebony interior, 3.0TT, Luxury package, Elements Package, Magnetic Package, which is standard with the 3.0. ETA is the week of 2/23. History repeats itself. My 2006 Lincoln LS was the last of that line too. I've been abandoned by Lincoln for the last time, though, unless they pull some rabbit out of a hat and come out with a sedan based on the Explorer/Aviator RWD platform. I'm not holding out a lot of hope for that.

I used to compete back in the mid 80's in sound competitions, took a few first place trophies. This reminds me of those days. I no longer install big systems in my cars due to 5 decades of playing music a bit too loud. So I of course built a 4000 watt 11.3 channel Home Theater that will rattle your eye balls and give people with a pace maker palpitations (yeah, figured that out the hard way). So I still crank it once in a while but actually use the power headroom for better dynamics and to ensure 11 channels get all the power they need while the massive subs have 1500 watt amps each. I want to upgrade the car stereo, I just don't keep the cars long enough.

    Missing the nice Weather

Purchased my 2017 Lincoln MKZ Reserve AWD 2.0L Turbo used from a Ford Lincoln dealer in mid July 2021. Really enjoying the car but missing the nice Weather! Thought I would post a few pics. I did drive it through Winter but not very much as there were not many places to go with the beer bug around! ? Pictures are from July 2021 all washed up. Parking lot picture is from about a month ago after running it through the car wash. Needed to get all the salt and grime off it! Not to bad for a 2017! My actual Spring/Summer street/strip car is under the cover! ? Will include a pic of me with it not under cover but at the track. My 2003 Mach 1 5 speed with darn near every upgrade for normally aspirated engine (NA). Heads, intake, cams, ported + polished. Complete suspension upgrades, drag shocks/struts, springs, tubular k member, Moser axels, 4:56 gears, Detroit Tru track diff, rev limiter for launching, all welded underneath with full length sub frames, aluminum drive shaft with loop, line lock, drag rims and slicks and more! Bought the Mach brand new in 2003 and been making it faster each year. You name It has probably been done! Wanted to keep it NA and go fast ? The Weather lately...Darn near white out conditions yesterday, -2C/28F and now today 12C/53F! No snow today but blowing with gusts at 90kms/55 mph! Crazy! Happy motoring to all!

    Newly Lincoln-ized!

I recently (mid-July 2021) bought a CPO 2019 MKZ Hybrid II, in shining Blue Diamond Metallic with the cappuccino interior. I have been in inexplicable love with this design since they first came out; became more serious about ownership late las year and spent the past 6 months searching for the right combination of miles, age, options, color and price. And I found it! This one has every option except the Luxury package that gained the pano roof and 20-speaker Ultima sound system, and although I do sort of miss having the big glass roof, I'm more than happy with the toys on the one I bought. I love (!) the ride, it handles just fine, and the comfort and quality of the interior are so far removed from my old C-Max that it takes some getting used to. (I miss the cool hands-free tailgate feature and up-high seating position of the Max, though.) I've followed and read most of the posts here, and it's great to have such a supportive and responsive community to count on when questions arise. Keep posting, keep helpfully replying to posts, and keep the MKZ flame alive!

  19. It's similar to an older car that came with a cassette radio and they don't sell cassette's anymore. They aren't going to offer a free DVD player. Just a case of outdated technology... not Ford/Lincoln's fault.

  20. Do you have ambient lighting? That's the fiber optic tube that lights the footwell on the driver's side, not a trigger. Does it light up at night? It should. How do I know what it is? The dealer broke the tip off the one on the passenger side of my 2020 when they were prepping for delivery. I found it on the floor. Nice work! It still functions as intended, though, so I never complained about it. Here's mine in operation:

  22. What sub model is it? Ie: Premier, Reserve, Black Label, etc? Does it have the 4cyl, hybrid, or V6? FWD or AWD? A few more specifics can help us provide an opinion on the pricing. Right off the top of my head, that price sounds a bit high, but knowing the particular details will help get you better input.

I like the grill on this model better than the newer ones, and as I am an old fart, the lack of tech in it is refreshing. It has just enough. I got rid of a Nissan Murano to get this, and I could not be happier.

    SYNC2 to SYNC3 upgrade

You need these basic things to perform the upgrade 1. Sync 3 screen(touchscreen NOTcompatible with SYNC2) 2. Sync 3 APIM(electronic module contains all the maps and software) 3. Sync 3 cable between APIM and screen 4. New GPS dongle(not compatible with sync 2) 5. New USB Hub(to enable android auto and carplay) 6. New mounting bracket for USB Hub(allows hub to mount in wider a/v interface hole) 7. A wiring adapter for the new USB hub 8. a. USB elm adapter, laptop, and FORSCAN software to properly configure your APIM . You can get a prep-programmed configuration file for FORSCAN based on your VIN from Dan. or b. a seller who will pre-program the system configuration for your car based on your VIN DDtech will provide all of this in a package. But, you can buy all the parts separately for far less , even a preprogrammed APIM. If you decide to source the parts yourself, you can find pretty much everything from ebay except the wiring adapter which you might as well buy from DDtech, it costs about 50 dollars. You do not need an MKZ specific SYNC3 unit or electronics. You can use the SYNC3 APIM from any SYNC3 vehicles, not just MKZs. You can use a SYNC3 screen from a lot of different Ford and Lincoln vehicles, but some screens WILL NOT be compatible with the MKZ brackets because of how the brackets mount to the frame. There are two types of 8" sync3 touchscreen: 1.recessed and 2. flat . The screen we use is the 8" flat. Those compatible flat type SYNC3 screens can be pulled from the following vehicles: 8" FLAT/STANDARD Ford Fusion Ford Mustang Ford F150 Ford Escape Ford C-MAX Ford Expedition Ford Focus Lincoln MKZ Lincoln MKC If you have park assist, it will require proper FORSCAN configuration of your PAM module to work correctly. You can also upgrade the firmware on your PAM to add extra active park assist features if you have the right programming tools for flashing firmware. If you want factory NAV, you must buy an APIM with factory navigation in it. It doesn't matter whether you had it or didn't have it before you upgrade If you add a non-nav APIM to your NAvigation equipped car, you will not have factory navigation. If you add a Navigation APIM to your non-nav vehicle you will have Navigation. The only componen that determines whteher or not a unit has navigation is the APIM. You can't add NAV maps to a non-map APIM because it has less internal memory. The 2017-2018 SYNC3 APIMs will only naturally upgrade to SYNC3 version 3.0 with the official USB software from Lincoln. A hardware revision adding more memory to the APIM allows upgrades to 3.4 with 2019 and newer vehicles. To upgrade to 3.2 or above requires the newer version of the APIM...officially. Also the Maps may be as old as 2014 and new ones may not be available from Ford/Lincoln for the older SYNC3 APIMS ... officially. Unoffically, you can reformat the older SYNC3 APIM operating system to allow it to upgrade to SYNC version 3.4 AND upgrade the Maps to the newest ones in the process pretty easily thanks to some helpful Russians.

    What’s your next car?

Cats aside, my '14 MKZ has the technology package. i can't imagine having a car without these options again. Far too important to safety, convenience and piece of mind - and I was sure I was going to hate adaptive cruise, proximity warnings, keyless entry, etc. Next car, likely a '17 MKX, will have to have them. Reserve probably.

  38. Hey everyone. I've been registered on the forum for what seems like forever. Here's some background about the car! I purchased her down in Kansas City, MO in May of 2016. She has every option available except for the large panoramic sunroof. I absolutely love the black on black, but I must say I am not a fan of the wood trim in the interior. I purchased the vehicle used, with 41,000 miles and I opted to purchase the extended warranty to 91,000 miles or 4 years due to the hybrid aspect. I am glad I did opt for the extended warranty as I did face some issues with the vehicle. The timing chain cover was leaking, the oil pan was leaking, the rear lower control arm bushings went out, the center speaker blew, and the rectangular side marker light on the rear passenger side of the car went out. All of which was covered by warranty with a $100 deductible. Apart from what the warranty covered and the window tint, the rest of the aftermarket/accessories were all installed by me. As you could probably tell from the title, this car is beat on. A lot. I've put nearly 65,000 miles on the car in under two years. It has plenty of rock chips on the bumper and the hood. A scratch on the bumper from the previous owner, and a nice scratch and dent in the hood from debris from a car in front of me in a construction zone. This will be getting fixed in the coming month. Cosmetically, there hasn't been much done to the car. The taillights and the front and rear side markers have been tinted. The front grill was plasti-dipped for a more aggressive look. 20% window tint was applied to the front and rear of the vehicle. I am a firefighter & EMT in a very rural fire protection district that spans just over 50 square miles. We are short-staffed most of the time & I work from home - thus needing a reliable way to get around. The car has been outfitted with a custom wiring harness specifically built for the emergency lighting setup which is pictured below. At the front of the vehicle there are two visor lights, that are 3W each. Extremely bright during the day and night. In the back there is a 8 unit, dual color traffic advisor bar as well as a 6 unit single color light bar. The corner lights can be switched off, and the entire bar turns amber for traffic direction purposes. As for communication, the vehicle is outfitted with a CB Radio/PA system as well as a mobile scanner unit. The suspension has been upgraded to H&R Sport Lowering Coil Springs, which stiffens the suspension, reduces body-roll, and drops the vehicle by 1.5"-1.8". The entire frame of the vehicle has been sanded, primed and bedlined. Holes were planned and drilled into the frame, door panels, underside of the hood, etc. and an anti corrosive solution was sprayed on the inside of the body and frame to prevent rust from the inside out. The sound system has been upgraded, somewhat. In the trunk is a dual 12" MTX Terminator set accompanied by a BOSS 1500 amp. These deliver quite the kick. They have been wired in a manner that I was able to keep the stock head unit in the vehicle. In the front driver and passenger compartment, as well as in the center console shelf are solid blue LED light strips. These light strips are wired to the aftermarket amplifier to deliver light that strobes to the low frequencies of the music. There is an override switch that turns the lights off completely. I'm probably forgetting something but I'll keep this thread updated. Tomorrow (Wednesday), the car is going in for an alignment and mounting of four new tires. The alignment is needed as I needed to take off several bushings and suspension components when installing the lowering coil springs. I plan on getting the hood fixed, maybe not painted but smoothened out by the end of winter. It will not rust as it is aluminum. Early spring the entire car will be getting plasti-dipped. I have already ordered some 20" wheels for her, and they will be going on in the spring as well after being powder coated. Don't mind how dirty she looks in the photos, I live in Northern Illinois haha. VID_61390923_155652_432_2.mp4 VID_61401008_014628_518_2.mp4

  39. The '28 is a done deal- I did it as a tattered old used car that was converted into a pickup in the late '40's, then used for a decade or so and tucked away in the barn. Apperently quite a few real luxury cars had more or less the same fate during WW2. So there it is... a Mark LT 80 years before the real one. 1928 Lincoln Pickup Conversion by Chuck Most, on Flickr ?

  40. I just wanted to say thanks to the MKZ Forum and it's members. I think I've used the search feature here to find things out about my car more often than the owner's manual, not to mention I've found out quite a bit of "real world" things to know and look out for from others. Maybe the joint isn't exactly jumping, but this seems like a pretty relaxed group of helpful people who love the little Lincoln. I'm hoping we're still all here in about eight years when a decent, relatively-low-mile 2018 Black Label has (hopefully) depreciated enough to be within my financial reach. ?

The End of my 2017 MKZ

I saw the part-out thread before this one, aw man this is really unfortunate. Similar to what the others have said - I am glad you are ok. It was great having you here on the forum, blazing the trail for 3.0TT/MKZ/FusSprt owners. I always appreciated the level of detail you put into your posts because not a lot of people take the time to explain things, share their story, their experience, and help others to that extent. Whatever you do next, don't lose that passion you have for doing that sort of thing, or alternatively find another way to channel and utilize that aspect of you and you'll be back in no time, out of your "low" point. Growth, cannot happen without change, so while this event is sad and understandably upset you, it is merely a change, and only you are in charge of what that change will do for you. That being said, If you need help at the end of the year for tax filings, message me - I will file your returns free of charge, and help any way I can. You don't need it, but good luck! And thank you for your contributions to the MKZ community.
