    100K miles club

Creeping up on 200k, I've replaced a couple of outer tie rod ends, seat heat/cool module, 12v battery, and a couple of pad/rotor changes. 2nd owner, I purchased in September of 2016 with 38,000 miles on it(for $14,000).

    Wrench Light

Little did I know how prescient the last sentence of my prior post would turn out to be. As noted above, I left the car at the dealer on 2/23. I just got it back Friday, 4/28. When I left off, they'd replaced the BCM and a battery cable to no avail. I don't have an itemized list of parts replaced, but one thing that stands out in my mind is that they replaced the main wiring harness. I was horrified at this because after visiting the old Wixom Lincoln assembly plant in MI years ago with my LS owner's club (at Lincoln's invitation), we observed that the main wiring harness goes into the vehicle when it's still just a shell. The tour guide mentioned that these harnesses were fragile and required careful handling. While he was telling us this, the line workers were tossing the harnesses through the windshield openings, where they landed on the bare steel floors of the body shells with a resounding bang. A member of our group made him aware of this, and he promised to deal with it later. I only mention this, as it may play into the story later. As I said, I don't yet have a list of things of work was done or parts replaced. My SA periodically called me over the course of the 8+ weeks to keep me apprised of what was going on. I know that there were phone calls to Lincoln engineers in MI, as well as visits from Lincoln field engineers. I got a call last week to say that they'd replaced "some sensors," but still no luck. At that point, I was ready to ask Lincoln to just buy the car from me, and we'd part company. Ironically, I'd just bought the car off lease a few days before it went in for service. He told me to call Lincoln, but before I did that, he would call his liaison that he'd been dealing with first. He advised me to wait until I heard back from him. On Friday morning, he called to tell me that, hallelujah, they finally fixed it. End result: a FoMoCo field guy spent a whole day with it and found that the replacement main wiring harness was defective. That's when I recalled that harness tossing incident at Wixom 20 years ago. Also on Friday, I got a voice mail from the SA's guy at Lincoln advising me to call them, which I did. The person (Lincoln concierge) took all of my particulars. I told her that the car was now fixed, but that IMO, I thought that I deserve some kind of compensation for the loss of use of my car, despite the loaner I had. I asked for reimbursement for at least one month's payment. She asked for documentation of the amount and that they'd get together to see what they could do. It was so good to be back in my MKZ! The Corsair was nice enough, but boring. It had 700 miles on it when I got it and was fully optioned. It was also a good opportunity to make extensive use of the Lincoln+Alexa app so that I could continue listening to SiriusXM. Just not my cup of 10w-30. I'm not a CUV/SUV person, and my time with it only served to reaffirm my feelings about that. I just don't understand the American public's infatuation with them. Amazingly, everything works as it should and there are no squeaks or rattles. It even retained all of my settings. There are no obvious signs that the inside of the car was apart. I'll update when I hear from Lincoln.

    Mkz windshield trim

Hi Brads600 and welcome to the Lincoln MKZ Forum. Most modern vehicles no longer utilize "windshield molding or trim". It gives the vehicle a more finished look (according to opinion, of course), and better aerodynamics also. Good luck.

    Saying goodbye?

Been a while but... My 2010 is still packed away. My neighbor runs a body shop and he's asking about buying it as a loaner car. He might get it yet.🤣 My other neighbor has a 2017 MKZ with a 2.0 turbo and she's looking at something a little newer. Trouble is, her sister has a 2020 model with the same engine, and it's in the shop for an engine replacement. Granted, hers is under warranty but that doesn't exactly inspire confidence in the 2.0 turbo. I do have the local dealer on the lookout for a 2017-2020 Continental, so far haven't heard from him yet. It's funny, last year they'd have at least a couple on the lot but now all they have are trucks and crossovers. I wouldn't object to a similar vintage MKZ, obviously, maybe without the 2.0, but driving the Townie these last few months has really reminded me how much I always liked the full size cars. What I'm saying is... I still haven't really made up my damned mind. 😂

  10. I put these on my 2019 MKZ. https://www.steeda.com/Steeda-Fusion-Jacking-Rails-CD4 These allow me to use a floor jack at the center of the car where the front and rear doors meet and allow for jack stands to be placed at each end of the jacking rails. I can then jack up the other side of the car in the same manner and have the car supported by four jack stands making tire rotations and other maintenance jobs easy.

  11. I have a 2015 MKZ and about a year ago I upgraded my Sync 2 to Sync 3. I have been reading this topic and others like it for the last couple of months and decided to try my hand at upgrading the modem to 4g. Well, today I did it, and although there were some things I couldn't figure out I got through it without bricking the modem or my car. I couldn't find a Hj5t-14g087-uf modem at a reasonable price so I decided to give it a go with a jl3t-14g087-cf. So Start Stop Lock and Unlock work and it monitors fuel level, oil life and tire inflation. I couldn't figure out how to monitor the TCU to see signal strength and the status of the module among other things Also, I saw images that in addition to start and lock and unlock also had lights and horns.I don't have those. I also saw it mentioned that you had to plug in your old antennae cable as well as the $g cable but my old cable didn't fit on the tan connection so I only have the 4g antenna attached to the purple connection on the modem. I do have a GPS antenna that was installed in the front of the car when I upgraded Sync. Anyway, I am excited it worked and want to thank each one who spent their time sharing info and instructions so that those of us with no clue could make this happen. Thanks so much and enjoy your holidays

  12. I'm replacing the whole plug every 3-4 oil changes. Probably not necessary but the plug costs only $5-6.

    Brake Hose Recall

I also sent an email to the service manager and called the dealership immediately. But being a weekend, the service manager is not there neither was the service advisor who handled my recall. I had several service issues with this dealership so am I bit wary of bringing my vehicle for service there. The service manager is very accommodating though - it is the people who perform the job they are supposed to be an expert that I have mixed feelings. Any wild guess what would have happened if I hadn't found out? I will ask Ford. Happy Weekend and Thanks for replying.

You are correct about it being upside down, too. I already flipped it before I sent the update here. That part is now tight and not moving at all.

  15. Have a feeling that is the best thing to do. I will pack what I have and get some opinions and pros and cons. I know labor charges will be premium and what they bundle may be better than the previous place. The quote for that was $3600 with cash discount. Quote is attached. Gear I have and brought and then had to utilize a different Line Out Converter Sound dampening material - These door panels have so many clips, I will easily break them. 2 pairs of Focal PS 165v1 Expert 6.5 Component sets (tweeters, crossover, woofer) Morel MPS 5.950 5 Channel amp AudioControl LCQ1 - 6 Channel line output controller Kicker TL7T122 - Shallow mount L7 which would fit nicely in the trunk. Below was not utilizing the AudioControl LCQ1 and having to purchase a JL Twerk (or TWk) and then a JL Tweaker DSP. They were not familiar with AudioControl and the Hertz DSP. -

  17. I don't know how they pull, if/when I try the extra cut buffing I'll just mask the piece and do it on the car. The masking is just to avoid any unplanned buffing elsewhere, as the compound overspray just cleans up with a warm bucket of water and soft bath towel. FWIW, only the passenger side piece on my car has this problem, so it would appear it's caused by poor practices/worksmanship. 😞
    1 point
  18. My side pieces look like yours, eventually I'll tape 'em off and see how they buff out with some extra cut buffing compound (I have experience in working with gelcoated fiberglass and hard plastics) wetsanding with 1500 if required. If not happy with the results, I'll just drop them off at a body shop for gloss black base/clearcoat paint.

    throttle body service

bbf2530 good to hear from you , From what I now read about this service is that it is good to have it done but it is not needed this early in the cars history . I also ask them to check a tire for a slow leak , the tech guy said he did all kinds of test but could not find it , next day I went to a family run shop and he found it in 5 mins , it was a simple faulty tire valve ! So it is lesson learned , and I much rather give my business to the family shop , for some reason I thought that since the Lincoln dealership knows Lincoln cars you would get more of a knowledgeable service . On the plus side I am still enjoying this car ( 2018 MKZh select ) every time I get into it . Stay well , Jim Ferere

  22. Final update for now: The factory tweeters didn't actually have a wire coming out of them so one would need to splice their new tweeters directly to the wire coming from the door. I didn't do this because I was wary about hacking up the wires and the factory tweeters still work fine for me. Everything else was a relatively straightforward and easy process with the only issue coming when one of the harnesses that I purchased had a pin pop out of the plastic. However, I was able to put it back in and tape it up for support and now everything works as intended. If I replace the tweeters in the future, I will be sure to update this post.

  23. I'm also surprise that cluthfield could not help you. If the tweeter is not damage no need to replace it if you use wire harness 72-5602 with your new aftermarket speakers. Cluthfield has them and also Amazon just search online and there are more places that have them. Hope this help.

  24. Hi Trengey. There are one or two audiophiles here with the knowledge to possibly assist you, if they are still around to see your questions. Perhaps one of them will jump in to help. In the meantime...I am shocked that Crutchfield would direct you here for expert audio information. If no one jumps in here to help, my best advice would be to call Crutchfield back and get another representative. Otherwise, I would recommend you order and purchase the correct Factory/OEM Revel speaker to replace the blown one. That can be done via the Parts Department at your local Lincoln or Ford Dealer (have your VIN handy). Or you can get the part number from them and use it to online shop for a better price. Keep us updated and good luck.

  25. Hi Trengey64 and welcome to the Lincoln MKZ Forum. Did you call Crutchfield and speak with one of their product and installation specialists? If not, that is what I would recommend you do. Call and ask the professionals what would be best. Let us know how you make out and good luck.

    Highest Odometer Reading

2013 MKZ AWD, it now has 276,000 on it and runs, drives like it has 50,000. No knocks, pings, leaks, and everything works on it. Doesn't look bad either, I would drive it across the country and not think twice about it. I did recently have to change the water pump, that's a bitch job to do. But it got me inside the motor to give a through inspection and a chance to clean the VVT solenoids and check the timing chain and tensioner, You would never had known the mileage looking at the internals.

  27. Ok, I went in to get the Driver Side Temp Blend Control Motor replaced and the Tech stated that it would take 4-5 hrs for approximately $400. I did not have the time so, I recall seeing a video that mentioned if the left side is not cooling it could also be related to low freon not making it to that side of the evaporator. Well, I went to my local WalMart and picked up a can of R134 (Super Tech Premium $35), added approximately 2-3 ounces from the 18oz. can and tada! Cold air from all vents again! I took the $47 part back to the dealer for a full refund.

Went with option 4. ? 2004 Signature. It's not dark colored but silver looks good. 110k and I'm the third owner. Tomorrow or Saturday the MKZ will be squirrelled away as I begin to gather up the parts to repair it. Rock Auto discount codes, don't fail me now. ?

    Gas door

Answer for future readers. On my 2016 MKZ, production date 11/15, the hinge pin does NOT look like the picture above by jmcgliss. Mine is a small diameter keyed plastic pin that presses into a plastic sleeve with blind end. So there is nothing you can put a cotter pin into. Fortunately my pin had backed out part way but was not broken. As far as removing the pocket assembly from the car: 1. Take out the wheel and fender liner, remove torx screw holding fuel pipe. You need the pipe loose. 2. Cut slits where there are little marks molded into the flange of the pocket. There are 4. I only needed to cut the upper and lower rear ones. Like shown on this Edge video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYxonwPwLks Then pry with 2 small screwdrivers as shown in that video. Once it pops out at the back, you can use plastic pry bars like in my previous post. You may or may not crack the plastic when doing this. I cracked only one spot, not too bad and chose to reuse the pocket. This is clearly Ford's intention for removal. It's also shown in a factory manual for another Lincoln product. In that factory manual they do say it will be damaged and needs to be replaced. With care and luck you may be able to save it. I did. 3. Tape all adjacent painted surfaces so you don't scratch them. From the back side, release the large rubber surround from the surrounding sheetmetal. Then carefully wiggle the pocket around to free it from the filler pipe and slide it out. There is barely enough room and you may have to tinker around a bit. 4. If your hinge pin is like mine and has backed out, remove it completely by gently wiggling it as you pull it out by hand. Mark the clocking of the slot in the receiving sleeve as it's harder to see later. Then press the pin back in using a clamp. A Bessey DuoKlamp or similar one-handed clamp is ideal for this. Use it gently. Mine took a bit of force to press back in so will probably be fine for a long time. Clearly if yours is loose going in you may want to put some superglue on it or something so it doesn't back out again. 5. Reassemble in reverse order. Sorry no pictures.

    Name of your MKZ

Interesting topic. I had a co-worker who names/anthropomorphizes her cars. She had a Jetta diesel that was under the emissions recall which basically made it a $20K savings account, and when she finally turned it in for the cash she cried. I don't name them, but somehow feel that when I do maintenance the car appreciates it, like if I take care if it it will take care of me.
