I have noticed certain mkz's on the road utilize the Amber leds (bumper mounted) for drl purposes where my 2014 has white drls, and the Amber portion is used for signaling.

What mkz's changed to Amber? Is this something that can be changed via forscan does anyone know? (I prefer the look of Amber, as it would match the corner lights in the headlights)

Does anyone at a minimum know what years/trims were configured with amber DRL's?

2015 mkzh. Mine has the white DRL and Amber is used for signaling. I don't think that any stock DRL is Amber. Maybe a mod or car was using flashers?

at first I thought I was crazy, but I have seen MKZ's driving around with ambers constantly on. Both parked, moving, headlights on, headlights off. So I know there has to be a trim or spec out there that has it.

I live right by Chicago's airport, as a result lots of limo companies in my area. Asked one of the limo drivers if he knew what year his mkz was and he had no idea. Haha, so I am still on the hunt to get to the bottom of this.

I believe i did see this setting for Forscan in Dan's post on 2gfusion.net

Just as an update, last night I experimented with Forscan and my MKZ. Dan's post does indeed cover DRL manipulation. I performed all changes listed, but could not get my front turns to operate as drls. The coding stuck, but nothing changed. We tried high beams, deactivating, etc - but nothing seemed to change the oem white LEDS from being on/used.

I was also able to get the DRL setting to appear in the gauge cluster. Which in theory allows the driver to turn them on/off. But this still did not work.

One interesting note - after performing the fusion coding from the post - I was showing a DRL error on the service operation menu screen in Forscan. I am thinking the MKZ's BCM may be different than the fusion, or the fact the car has adaptive LED headlights might be altering the coding.

My next plan is to find out which MKZ had amber DRL's as a default, and using the VIN, acquire the as built data, and compare to my car's coding, since now I know where the DRL data lives.

I have the amber fog lights/drl's and would much prefer the white.. Can these be a direct swap for a set from ebay?

Ugh, let's trade :) Yours is a 2014 too?

I wonder if the hardware is different, or if it is just software. I would love to see a full scan of your car and compare to mine.

Ok - that is no problem, thanks anyway.

Ford offers a VIN decoder to view a car's coding from the factory, that is all I would be using it for. If there is anyone else who has an MKZ that uses the amber leds as DRLS, please let me know if you can export the coding from ForScan so i can compare to my car's coding.

I wonder what trim/options determines the change in white vs amber, if we both have 2014's, it mus tbe dictated by something.

I saw a MKZ with the Amber Drl's today. I'm thinking they're not necessarily drl's, as-much as they are amber running lights, where drl's are either off, or not factory-enabled.

FWIW, 2015, white LED DRL’s, can be deactivated via driver settings in dash. I prefer the white, but that’s me. Good luck in your quest.
