Sync Brain Fart

Recommended Posts

This past Saturday, we went for breakfast.  The radio was tuned to an SXM station on the way over. When I got back in the car and started it, the radio was on SXM channel 1.  "Well, that's rather odd", I thought, and tried to change back to what I had on.  Nothing doing. No response with steering wheel controls or touchscreen controls.  I shut the car off and opened the door.  The radio did not go off and remained on ch.1, but now there was no audio.  After a few minutes of driving, I got the blue screen of death.  After stopping for gas and restarting, it was now off.  No response to Power button.  When I got home, I let it sit for 30 minutes to give the system enough time to go to "sleep."  I toyed with the idea of disconnecting the battery, but didn't feel like hassling with that. Upon restarting, everything was back to normal and has remained so since then.

In this day and age, everything electronic seems to need the occasional reboot.😕

Sync is a great system,  I really like the intuitive operation,  especially the Sync 3 in my 2018. But as a whole,  these Lincolns are electrically glitchy. I have not experienced the issue you described,  but I have had many others.... with various system around the car. Like when I start the car and maybe 1 out of 15 times the seat doesn't return to the proper memory setting.  Or when I walk up to the car and it refuses to sense the remote and I have to unlock it manually.  Or when the seat cooling turns itself on even on the coldest January day.  Or when my Lincoln Way app stops talking to the car for a few days and then just starts working again.

Just as a guess... maybe it was in the midst of an update ?  If you have it setup like that....

But yes... most versions of Sync can be 'finicky' at times....

Mine did this about a year and a half ago.  Don't remember what I did to fix it, if anything.  Although, it may have been the verbal threat and beating.

It's on auto update, but I was not near any wi-fi source, if that's what you mean.

Yup I was thinking that, more for those who might not know... I assumed you would.  😎

Mine will think my phone is not useable when I first plug it in, but then it does see it and use it... <shrug>
