Key Fob Upgrade

Recommended Posts

Hello! Just got a used 2017 style Lincoln key fob for $40 and successfully programmed it to my 2014 (will need the 2 original keys). I hate the cheap hollow plastic feeling of the 2013-2016 style key.

Only downside is the key blade is not really transferable unless you get it cut somewhere.

Good for you and thanks for sharing. As for me, I dislike the newer key fobs because they are so big and heavy. I always wonder how they can make my phone with the capabilities of a super computer but our key fobs remain relatively ginormous devices that sit like a brick in our pockets.

I agree with @leftoverture.  I preferred the smaller size key fob from my 2014 Fusion vs my 2019 MKZH fob that is way to big and heavy for what it does.

Ironic. Lincoln specifically designed this fob as part of the MKZ upgrade for 2017. They wanted it to have a heavier, more luxurious feel befitting a luxury car and to further differentiate it from the Fusion.  IMO, the previous fob that I had with my 2014 was a cheap-feeling piece shared with the Fusion.  The "chrome" trim on it started peeling and went under my fingernail. Ouch!  I was a member of the Lincoln MKS forum when that was model was introduced and there were numerous complaints about the fob.  Some owners had them replaced under warranty for the peeling issue.

I don't mind the newer ones.  Especially when a cute girl comes up and asks, "Is that a Lincoln key fob in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?"

I respond, "Unfortunately, at my age, it's a key fob."

Would the old key fob internals fit inside the new one?

Hi Zach. No. Get the new key cut.

Good luck.
