Lincoln Zephyr Reflection concept.

Recommended Posts

Hi gang. Well, perhaps at some point in the not too distant future, Lincoln/Ford will reconsider, and bring cars/sedans back to the U.S.? 🤗

I just got done reading this and logged in here.  If I wasn't annoyed enough about the demise of the MKZ, this just about completes it. How about this sentence?

Quote

With a dynamic and futuristic exterior design and a lightweight interior, the Zephyr Reflection embodies the current digital era with advanced, intuitive technology that redefines American luxury.”

Seriously?

China is a vastly larger and more profitable market for Ford these days,  so no surprise they tailor such cars for them.  That Ford abandoned the sedan market in the USA will never sit well with me especially since they are still offering sedans in other markets.  Alas... I'm old enough that my next vehicle purchase could very well be my last... so I may not be around when they finally shift back the other way.

Ha.  My wife gets angry at me when I say those exact words.  If I am here for another car, there are still other choices.  I was on my way to order a Genesis G70 Sport last year when the Lincoln dealer called and made me an offer I couldn't refuse.

IDK if China is a larger and more profitable market for Ford, but they still have a strong demand for sedans.

Heck, ya never know when your or someone else's actions could make you, "in the market, again". I know if my 2017 24k miles 3.0TT Pano-roofed sweetie got hit by a meteorite tomorrow I'd either have to find a super low miles 2020 MKZ or accept Ford's wisdom and take a close look at a new Kia or Genesis. To Ford-"Homes don't want my green, homes don't get my green.".

Very true, Back when I had a Caddy STS, I lusted after the "China only" SLS version that was a few inches longer wheelbase and had nicer interior touches and some red LED/clear lens details in the rear. Must be for all those Chinese families driving coast to coast on vacation, that didn't want to squeeze into Buicks. 😉

There is no mention of power train.  Perhaps Ford is leaving their options open?  While I like the styling I still much prefer the existing model.  Especially the rear end.

I agree. The new front is interesting, but they near ruined the tail end. The side is a little busy, but true to the last Conti sedan. Personally, I got the MKZ because I didn't like the side chrome doodads on the bigger one. Are these going to be built in Mexico or China? Maybe the Chinese Division would be interested in building a plant in the SE United States like some other countries have? 😉

Hi 17MKZ. Currently, they will be built in China (if you were seriously wondering😉).

Good luck.

Hi gang. And just for some added perspective: It takes ~3-4 years to design, engineer and begin production of a new vehicle.

Therefore, it is safe to assume that this concept was already well into at least the design phase (or further) when Lincoln/Ford decided to discontinue selling all cars (except for the Mustang) in the U.S.

So this would have been our next MKZ (renamed to Zephyr, as they entirely eliminate the MK naming structure).

I would have bought one in a heartbeat. 😥

Good luck.

Thanks! I was absolutely wondering. I figure it might play into any chances or Ford reconsidering in the future to sell them here, I don't see a long line of people to get a car from the CCP, I agonized long enough over getting one made as a residual of the NAFTA jobs plan. They way the "nice sedan" world is shaping up, it looks like my eventual MKZ replacement car will be a "foreign car" made in the US rather than another domestic name made in a foreign plant. I really love my Z, but nothing last forever.

I'm a lot of years away from replacing my awesome Lincoln, so this gives me hope of a Lincoln sedan as a possible replacement for my Z.  And i sure hope it runs on gasoline, and has more horses than 400.

Absolutely love this design .  This is what SHOULD have been done at the end of the 2013-16 model years , I have the 2016Zh and have not seen another car that I like that would replace it ,. If Lincoln came out with this I would be at the dealership tomorrow !

I think it's a slap in the face to US consumers and after my 17MKZ kicks the bucket I'll be team Audi or Genesis.  Ford stayed afloat by giving us subpar products but yet they specifically cater a car for the Chinese market.  Why not have the same love and consideration for the US market?  Buick is also guilty of giving China quality while giving us the left overs from the parts bin.

The Zephyr concept has been seen around Dearborn.  There appears to be some kind of exhaust system seen in the photos, so unless that's a decoy, it doesn't seem to be a BEV.  Still probably destined for China only, but I wouldn't be unhappy to find out otherwise.
