New to the forum, looking for an MKZ

Recommended Posts

Hello folks, I'm new to the forum and looking for some advice.  I'm on the hunt for a new daily driver, and I've got my eye on the MKZ (loved my wife's Zephyr, which met an untimely end years ago).  I've found more than a few candidates from 2008 - 2012, with 80K miles or less (kinda where I want to be, price-wise).  So with these years / models and miles in mind, what should I watch out for mechanically or electronically?  Thanks in advance for any insight.

Hi Andy. All the usual things you should do with a used car. Inspect it thoroughly. Ask to see all service records. Be sure routine maintenance has been performed properly. Check and inspect all fluids for color, level odor etc.

Take it for a long, thorough test drive. Check operation of the transmission closely. Check all electronics, audio, climate control, cruise control etc etc. Check tires for treadwear. Having to purchase tires right after buying a used car would be an expensive proposition.

Find a trustworthy shop/tech who can do a complete inspection of the vehicle, including checking the OBDII system for any stored DTC error codes.

Those are just some things to get you started. I am sure others will jump in with more suggestions. Let ks know how you make out and good luck.
