The Other Shoe Drops

Recommended Posts

I bought my 2019 thinking it was the last year. Fortunately they kept production running a bit longer.

Hopefully, Ford/Lincoln go back to offering sedan's within the next 5-10 years or else I'll have to purchase another brand that does.

Same here, I only have 32K on mine and got the ESP so I'll be driving it for a long time. After that who knows. I guess we'll have some exclusivity!

It is what it is, and since I lost mine, that'll be it for me with Lincoln.

The Aviator is a size I just do not design despite it looking good. The Corsair might of got me if it had an Aviator-like power train, or if Ford would bring proper PFDI to the 2.3L Ecoboost, which they also dropped the ball on the 3.0 Engine in the Aviator/Explorer. I refuse to accept an GDI only engine for long term purchase.

The only non-sedan I'll take as a daily driver is a truck like the Ford Ranger, but I'm waiting for hopefully the 2021 MY to show real improvements and modern upgrades. If 2021 Ranger has no PFDI engine option (either 4 or 6 cylinder) then it's out. I do not want an F-150 since its excessive in size. I do like the Mustang, but want a special one like the upcoming Mach 1 (Not Mach E) edition, or Shelby GT500 for its final year. That'll be a fun car though and something I store when summer tires don't cut it.

My prediction is I'll probably defect to the Genesis/Kia side of things for the daily driver.

Zalvern,

The Lincoln Nautilus Black Label with the 2.7 Ecoboost is a very sweet vehicle. Very smooth you may want to test drive one. I loved it but just a bit pricey for me.

It is a nice vehicle. But in the end, I'm just in preference of sedans and coupes. I tried the Aviator, and it was nice in every way but...I felt like the size is wasted since its just myself. I travel in regards to work but try to stay on the lighter end of things.

The only truck I am considering is mid size, but the current Ford Ranger feels a bit thrown together since its toting that darn Fusion Instrument Cluster...that alone was a deal breaker and why I'm waiting for next gen of the Ford Ranger.

I'm a big fan of sadans too, and thankfully I love this one and probably won't be looking for a replacement for another 10 years.  That's because I won't put many miles on it, and of course having another vehicle (pickup truck) helps.  Unless some new sedan really peaks my interest.

So... chances are my next car will be another used MKZ, and a Jaguar XE after that...

Curious, what do you know about the AWD Mustang I heard about at work? A coworker told me that a friend's dad ordered a new Mustang that's electric and AWD. I know nothing of the car and had not heard of such a thing until last week. I don't like the idea of the electric motor in a Mustang, unless it's a hybrid(back up engine). It sounds interesting, electric motors are great for torque, and economy in small amounts.

You're talking about the Mustang Mach-E. It's not what you're thinking.  This isn't a traditional Mustang.  It's an all-new, BEV SUV/CUV that they're calling a Mustang since it has some Mustang styling cues.  It will be available with AWD.  The use of the Mustang name on this vehicle is driving purists crazy.   It's not coming out until the end of 2020 but you can reserve one now.  The First Edition was sold out at the end of November.  Here's more: https://www.ford.com/suvs/mach-e/2021/

drolds chimed in on it, but indeed the person you mentioned is talking about the Mach E.

It's basically everything "Not-a-Mustang" yet is to be accepted among the Mustang family. I feel it was simply done because Ford knew the name would push it harder for publicity and recognition beyond just being "another BEV against Tesla". It's all in the sake of marketing, which can turn into profit beyond just people buying the vehicle. Be it positive or  negative.

After the Mustang Bullitt production ends, there will be an actual Mustang Mach 1 coming to replace the "special tier". It should be the most powerful Mustang, that isn't full on Shelby (I suspect it'll be faster than the Shelby GT350 even if it has less crank HP), produced until the S550 platform ends.

A Hybrid Mustang will most likely be pushed to the next generation S650, which supposedly will share along with the Explorer/Aviator platform (CD6). That could change though.

My lease is up in September... Lincoln sent me a notice that they will pay the last 3 months of lease .. So I have been playing around with the on line build .. I don't see were the drivers package is available, am I missing something ? or is it not available anymore ?

The Drivers Package is not a seperate option anymore.  When you select the 3.0 engine with All Wheel Drive,  that choice automatically includes Dynamic Torque Vectoring and Sport Tuned Suspension.

Also, when you order the 3.0  AWD, the Magnetic Package is included at no charge.  Therefore, you get the same wheels that are on the 2017 with DP as well as the Magnetic upper grille.  Unfortunately, the aluminum interior trim that came on the DP in 2017 is no longer included.  Wood trim only.  "Spun aluminum" trim is only available on the base model.  This may not be an issue to you but it is to me.  My 2020 MKZ is due at the dealer imminently.

I thought the DP for '17 came with the Carbon Fiber interior trim, which I loved. Mine is the now-gone Select trim level, and I took the "Sonata Spin" aluminum trim package, which was a no-charge option. I'm not a fan of wood trim either.

Yes, CF. Brain fart.  I was thinking of my 2010 and 2012 Sports that came with aluminum trim.

The Consumer Reports auto issue arrived in the mail yesterday, and the MKZ and MKZ hybrid took spots number 2 and 3 in their category of $35-$45K sedans. Not bad for a 7 year old design. And just in time for Ford to kill the model. Perfect.

ugh, unless you own a Jaguar dealership, you don't want to drive a Jag. Nothing but problems.

I feel the same, as I have other vehicles that keep the mileage low on them, but there's always the chance of theft or an accident, and it saddens me that replacement choices may be a dozen "second bests". I have a full-sized E350 van, so no need or want of a non-sedan to replace my MKZ with SUV, and a 2-seater convertible, so no way I'll downsize into an econobox from the MKZ, either. If FOMCO really drops everything traditionally Lincoln, I suppose the market will step up, but my switch from Buick to Caddy was not pleasant some years ago, and Caddy has not had a good rep lately from what I read. I like the look of the CTS, ATS, whatever TS, cars, but not the mfr. of them.

Changing of the guard...

If Ford does drop everything in the Conti/Zepher concept, then I'll be shopping for a CT6-based CT6 😏
