Hi pwcopy. The plastic factory bracket is usually riveted on at the Dealership before the car is sold (if the particular state requires a front plate). If you unbolt and remove your license plate from the bracket, you should see the rivets which fasten the bracket to the bumper/bumper cover.  You will need to drill out the center of the rivets, until the rivets break, thus releasing the bracket. If the bracket was screwed or bolted on, then just remove the screws/bolts.

If you don't feel comfortable doing it and don't have a handy family member or friend,  any body shop, or even local service shop, can do it for you.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

Hey, bbf! Thanks for the info and the how-to. Pretty sure mine is riveted. I'm handy, so I should have no problem following yr instructions. What happens to the back sides of the rivets? Will they just fall to the ground. Haven't looked under my front bumper yet. Is it open under there or is there some kind of tray that will hang up the rivets? Many thanks for yr help!
