Spare tire in a mkz hybrid

Recommended Posts

Hello all, Recently we made our first lincoln purchase, 2015 mkz hybrid with 30000 miles all options except sun roof, It just dont feel right not having a spare tire in the trunk,

Is it possible to get a spare tire set-up from a mkz that will fit in the trunk of a mkz hybrid, This is what i am looking at,  https://www.ebay.com/itm/2013-2018-LINCOLN-MKZ-HYBRID-COMPACT-SPARE-TIRE-WITH-JACK-KIT/323443048617?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

Question would be will this fit in the space allowed in the trunk.

I believe the reason behind there not being a spare tire included within the Hybrid trim levels is a safety concern. I recall reading this somewhere many months ago - I am not sure whether this is 100% correct, but from what I can recall, there is no spare tire due to the Hybrid battery. In the case of a rear end collision, the spare tire would get pushed forward and into the Hybrid battery - causing major risk for a fire and/or other related electrical safety issues. I've owned my 2014 MKZ Hybrid for almost two years now, and have put over 58,000 miles on it. In that time I've only had two scenarios where I had a nail or other object in the tire causing it to rapidly loose air. The fix was simple enough to air up the tire each morning/afternoon until a new tire came in and I had time to mount it. Everyone has a different comfort level when it comes to working on their vehicles, so what works for me may not work for you - but be weary if you decide to implement a spare tire.

The set that you have linked to on eBay should fit - as the foam filament underneath the trunk compartment is removable.  I can't tell you for certain, but I would say it would fit.

I didnt think of that,Not saying it can not happen,But to my thinking you would need to be hit pretty hard in the rear to move that tire up and over the trunk shelf and also the tire is clamp down pretty good

But i does give me something to think about.

I thought it was the extra weight.  First I heard anything about it being a safety issue.

Sure , take out the foam , buy a scissor jack and  cross bar your all set . I put one in my 2013 MKZh and then took it out and put it in my 2016 MKZh , it fits perfect and you have peace of mind on long trips . There were instructions on this site and Ford fusion site about tires that fit for a spare . I purchased one and put it on and drove about 50 miles on it to check it out and found it worked great .

This was for the 2013 MKZh  with  18 inch tires and they were fine on the car when I rode on them . I now have a 2016 MKZh with 19 inch tires but have not tried the spare on it yet .

Yes by all means try it on the car as soon as you get it then see if it fits in the sub trunk space , if it fits you know it will work in an emergency , if it does not fit you can send it back right away . Check the air pressure and fill if need be then you will be all set .  Good luck , this will give you peace of mind .

Even if it is a bit tight, he could always let some of the air out, and, if needed, use the compressor to fill it.

I got the tire today, i mounted the tire on the car first thing and it fit just fine, The diameter fits it is the side wall height that is messing with me now, I would say it is close to an inch in width to much,Which means when i try to put down the inside trunk cover on it is not sitting flat , I could fix this by cutting out a piece of hard foam,Cut out around the tire and that will fix the issue, Right now im waiting to hear back from the people i got the tire from............
