What’s your next car?

Recommended Posts

Uh oh. The MKC order bank closed?! My wife’s MKX goes back in June and we need to decide on what’s next. I hope we can find something with the colors and options that she likes from dealer stock.

Hi R2D2.  Zalvern mentioned it, but you may have missed it. The information on that Build Sheet for the 2020 MKC is actually for the Corsair. So according to that Build Sheet, the current schedule states that the Order Bank will open on 5/13/19, and JOB1 is scheduled for 8/5/19. The Order bank for the 2019 MKC is already closed.

Hope that helps.

Yes, you are right, I missed it. but still far our and not sure if pricing will fit with what I am trying to do here.

😄.... that's great

I don't know what happened officer, my cat was driving 😂

You would have met both of them if you weren't one of those high class individuals that lives in one of them gated communities with armed guards and killer dobermans.  😸😸

Now I know what happened, the cats saw the dobermans and pressed the 'R" to reverse out.🤣

You can take your cats on a car trip?  Wow, I envy you.  Mine carry on like I'm burning them with cigarettes on the 15-minute trip to the vet. 🙀

Ours too!

Cats aside, my '14 MKZ has the technology package. i can't imagine having a car without these options again. Far too important to safety, convenience and piece of mind - and I was sure I was going to hate adaptive cruise, proximity warnings, keyless entry, etc. Next car, likely a '17 MKX, will have to have them. Reserve probably.

My wife and I will drive 7 hours to our cabin with our cats.  They hate the car ride, they are smart enough to know we are packing for the cabin, and they make themselves scarce... the little cat is a master hider.

Our larger cat perches himself in my lap and drapes his front paws over my right forearm the entire trip (I’m driving). I know I should get carriers for them... should...

I thought that the adaptive cruise was a gimmick.  I wouldn't be without it again.  I had a  '14. Now I have a '17, and they upgraded the ACC to include stop and go.  This makes heavy traffic that much more bearable.  It's still aggravating to be in stop & go traffic but this feature takes the edge off a little and makes it less fatiguing for sure.

They do know when you're leaving, don't they?  One of mine always puts his favorite toy in the suitcase.  It's as if he's saying, "don't forget about me."

I still can't conceive of driving with a cat unrestrained and in your lap.  But it's great if you can do it.  May daughter-in-law doesn't own a cat carrier for hers either.  They moved from NY to AZ by car with them (and 2 dogs).  A 4-day trip.

Stop and go works great unless you are stopped for more than 3 seconds.  Then you have to re-engage cruise.

Or just lightly tap the accelerator.

A light tap on the accelerator pedal of the 'Resume' button.  I do both.  It was a leap of faith for me to let it stop on its own.  It takes some getting used to.  It's occasionally a little late and abrupt for my taste.  I would brake earlier on my own but it's still a great feature.

I agree. It took some getting used to but now I feel pretty comfortable using it. I usually use a tap of the reset button to get going again rather than the accelerator tap. I use the ACC most of the time. Lets you concentrate on road conditions without a lot of attention to speed control. Much more relaxing ride.

Did we ever resolve whether the brake lights come on when the ACC slows you down for traffic?

Hi Mcondo.  Yes. If the ACC needs to engage the brakes to slow the car, the brake lights illuminate.

I'll check again but I do not think mine does that.  I need to press the Resume button.  Looking at the speed control, when stopped, on the dash the mph cruise setting has a line through it,  That tells me cruise is off and what the cruise speed is set for.

Another CC question.  When I have a set speed on a main road, not a highway, with limited traffic, if the car ahead of me takes a right hand turn, my car comes to almost a complete stop before resuming even though the car in front of me is no longer in front of me having already made the turn.  And I mean as if I had slammed on the brakes.  Doesn't matter what distance is set.  Anyone else notice this?

My car also has ACC and have noticed it detecting a car slowing down (to make a right turn or whatever) and have felt the automatic braking applied, especially if the distance between us is narrowing.. I don't really consider it a fault, just a reminder that I am a little too close. 🙄

ACC allows for larger gaps between vehicles than what most drivers are used to. Even at the smallest distance setting, it allows for what the system is programmed to consider a safe distance. Faster you go, the larger the gap between vehicles.

Quite the amount of drivers ride too close depending on speed, especially if they do not use ACC. I'll admit the one thing to beware with ACC is the gap may invite poor drivers to literally cut in front of you if traffic starts to tighten up. In my MKZ, I would turn off ACC as some drivers will lane change abruptly due to the distance gap, and upset the cruise with sudden brakes. I would drive "close enough" to a vehicle in front, of mine, just to deter abrupt lane changes. So once traffic is getting heavier, I usually drop the ACC.

On a side note, the latest ACC on the Aviator is able to adjust based on Speed Limits signs. I actually will like that feature at times. Want to see if it will allow for a grace speed limit factor.

...and now, two more days till New York Auto Show presses should spill the beans on remaining vehicles. Though Ford leaked the arrival of the HP 2.3L EcoBoost Mustang.
