Recommended Posts

So this is a class action settlement that if you sign up you may be entitled to a payment . I received this notice in the mail it directs you a website where you look up your car past or present to see if you might qualify . Has anyone else received one of these .

I also received this "notice" in the mail. One link seemed to say that I was eligible. However, when I ran my VIN on the NHTSA site there are no recalls open.

The site is Auto air bag settlements.com , I put in my vin # and it said I was eligible , you can get up to $500.00 but you give up any other claim of injury or work to replace the air bag.

I do not think it matters if you still own the car if you have the vin # to either one you can enter it in the site and they will show if your vin is eligible . I entered my previous 2013 MKZ and it was .

Can you still get the money if you no longer have the car?  😀

Hi 1984.  You would need to check the actual settlement guidelines, but unless you suffered some type of loss, usually not.  The current owner of the vehicle would usually be the one eligible for compensation. And if you had the airbag replaced under warranty and/or accepted the rental car coverage while your car was being repaired, I also believe you are not eligible for compensation. Doesn't hurt to check though.

If I find out otherwise, I will post back. I received one too for my 2007.

EDIT - Just read it.  It essentially tells us we can get our airbags replaced and get a rental car and that a fund has been set aside to accomplish that. And that now a bunch of lawyers want to get their big commissions of 25% of that $299.1 million settlement amount.  And if any money is left (which there won't be) after the lawyers take their 25% commissions and all the claims have been settled, members of the "class action suit" (the actual vehicle owners) may share in those leftover funds, up to $500 each (which will not happen). 🤣

I received that in the mail yesterday and shredded it. I get these class action notices all the time. I spend a bunch of time to fill out forms and website pages only to receive $8 in the mail 10 months later while the lawyers get on their yachts and sail around drinking champagne. Don’t get me wrong, I like champagne too and would love a yacht, however I feel these class action lawsuits are out of hand and this airbag issue is a bit blown out of proportion.

I once got $50 in a class action action suit for a $100 HP printer.  Not bad.  😜

I agree with you for most of these, though.  The only people that clean up are the attorneys.

Just to be clear:  I didn’t really expect to be eligible for any $, given that I no longer own that particular car (2013 MKZ).  😄

I love the 'class action suits' where they tell you to fill out the form with a deadline of 3 months from the time you receive it.  You fill it out and then get ANOTHER form to fill out with a deadline of 90 days.  And then never hear from them again.
