Does tune affect Sport mode?

Recommended Posts

My Z is going to be the first car I tune with a Sport separate from regular drive mode. Does the tune change the parameters of both Drive and Sport or just Drive? Also, can it just be set where the tune affects Sport, but not Drive?

Ideally, a performance tune is made around Sport mode's less restrictions in terms of transmission power and control. I expect the rift to actually widen between the comfort of Drive and Sport's aggressiveness.

On my 2014 Ford Fusion, at least with Livernois, being tuned while in Drive did make it shift a bit more seamlessly, but all the real bells and whistles were noticed upon entering Sport mode.

So you really shouldn't have to worry about losing the comfort and laid back nature of Drive. A tune simply allows the engine to really transfer the power that is being held back by the computer system. The 3.0T is very beastly in torque, as I notice this car gets more heavy in torque management feedback than any other vehicle I've driven, and why some may complain about the transmission being stiff or holding gears...even slams sometimes. As the car breaks more in, you may notice it seems to "lag" with the transmission...it's the dang computer system trying to scale things down cause clearly  Ford/Lincoln doesn't want all the potential engine's power making its way through at all times.

As I mentioned before, a mere transmission retuning will do this car very big favors.

Great. I want Drive to stay pretty comfortable and then pressing Sport provides max performance and a much different driving experience. It sounds like that will be the case.

You will notice a big difference in just a tune... I have not noticed any adverse changes to the "S" mode on mine.

I went with an SCT tune through Unleashed Tuning. Torrie was great to work with and was very quick to respond.
