Many thanks.  It is making some power on the top end trapping at almost 107.  Care to share any launch technique details?  And are you on summer or all season tires?

Yes, completely stock. It was a demo with 4300 miles.

It's 19 inch all seasons. Michelin. I disabled TC, turned off AC, set to Sport and found that launching in the 2000-2500 range worked best. I didn't try from idle since I thought building up the boost was important. Had some front wheel hop on a couple of runs, but that didn't seem to affect the times.

Thanks. Launch rpm definitely helped versus off idle. I have the all seasons too and a tune on top of it. I was hoping to get to the track this fall, but timing didn’t work out. Can’t wait to go in the spring. These great 1/4 mile postings always get me excited.

I'm thinking of the Livermois tune. Seems to be the only viable upgrade at this time.

It is a very noticeable difference.

Any longterm trends on how tunes hold up?.  I do scan the 2gfusions forums and read occasional stories of blown motor parts.  Not that a tune is ultimately the cause of anything.  Stock motors will fail too.  I am considering an Unleashed tune to add a little extra to mine.  Worry a little about my chances of it not being an issue down the road...

I love my Livernois tune and have had no issues.

Still doing fine with my tune and performance modifications. I had more issues with software and modules needing updates, than anything.

Livernois still does not have a performance tune for the 3.0 Continental.   I am very happy with the tune I have from AJP turbo but I have always thought the 1-2 shift was a bit too soft.  It is 100% better than stock but still not as crisp as my old MKS.    My tuner has been working on a Fusion and says he has finally cracked the code to sharpen up that 1-2 shift for me.  I look forward to seeing the results.   Livernois did build a transmission tune for me a few months ago but it was barely any better than stock.

 

The tuning and datalogging experience with my tuner has been enlightening.  So much of what applied to the 3.5 ecoboost just does not work on the 3.0.   I am not looking for a dragstrip special by any means but I think my Conti has a bit more in it with a quicker 1-2 shift.    We might also try a tune more dedicated to a mix of E85.   The SHO and Fusion Sport guys are getting good results with E85 but it has never really helped my car much.   There is likely some potential there.

What about the caution of not running more than E15 in these (non-flex fuel) engines?

 

 

Do not use:

  • Diesel fuel.
  • Fuels containing kerosene or paraffin.
  • Fuel containing more than 15% ethanol or E85 fuel.
  • Fuels containing methanol.
  • Fuels containing metallic-based additives, including manganese-based compounds.
  • Fuels containing the octane booster additive, methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl (MMT).
  • Leaded fuel, using leaded fuel is prohibited by law.

The danger of excessive use of E85 is that the fuel pump on these diect injection engines cannot pump enough at WOT and the car goes lean. To run higher percentages requires monitoring fuel pressure during the datalogging and tuning process and not exceeding the fuel pump's capability to maintain adequate pressure.

The 2013+ Ecoboost 3.5 can handle up to about 30% ethanol. The 2.7 and 3.0 are capable of much more due to improved fuel systems.

I have run up to 30% with no drop at all in fuel pressure. However, it didn't really gain me anything due to not having enough boost or timing to fully take advantage of it. I have seen SHOs drop ETs by nearly half a second when tuned for a 30% ethanol mix compared to just running E10 93 octane.

Livernois hasn't made any updates to the MKZ either.

Though I am planning to invest in darkstar's downpipes once he creates a catted version and have Livernois do the install and retune. Won't be anytime soon however.
