While under warranty I had the driver's seat back repaired 3 times in my 2014. In all cases the pivot on the right side seemed to break causing the seat back to feel like it was not straight. I find now that it has happened again. I have experienced seat breakage from accidents on other cars but my 2014 was never in an accident.

I never experienced this issue when I had the 2013 MKZ yet it seems to be the same part for both years

Now I would never be confused with a skinny person but I am not that heavy either ... 240 lbs on a 5'-11" frame.

The last time the dealer claimed to fix it with the "heavy duty" repair last July but obviously that didn't work.

The part number they replaced was DP5Z-5460763-AB in all cases so I don't know what the "heavy duty" repair meant.

Here is a link to the part number https://www.gaudinau...l-dp5z5460763ab

When you look at the part number detail they only list it for the 2013/2014.... did they change it for 2015 and beyond because of a problem?

Has anyone else had this issue?

Yes.  To refresh your memory here's our previous conversation.  Mine never broke again, though.  Even though our cars were not included in the recall, obviously they had a supplier issue with seat frames.  I think the two big suppliers of these parts are Lear and Johnson Controls.  (The latter was sold to Tyco, Inc. in 2016).

I thought we did discussed but couldn't locate the thread, now that I see it was titled about ambient lighting I understand why I missed it.... I must be getting older  ;)

I printed that  recall notice as well, maybe I'll get lucky....after all this is the 4th repair on this

I also have this issue on my 2014 MKZ.  The dealer has ordered the seat back panel, but does that correct the problem or is there another part related to the under lying seat frame that is needed to be replaced also?

Thanks

My thought as well as this will be the 4th replacement.

I am scheduled to go to the dealer later today and discuss this with the service manager/director

Please let everyone know how it goes especially if they recommend replacing another part.

Thanks

Wondering how your talk with the service manager went about the seatback issue?

Thanks

My talk with the service advisor and service manager went well and they were very receptive to my issue of the seat back breaking now for he 4th time.

They are looking to see if there are alternative parts but I am delaying service for that and the seat belt tensioner recall until I get back from a trip on June 1.

I will update then what they did.

Car has been in the dealer for a week now for the seat back issue....

Thank god they gave ne a decent loaner, 2017 MKZ with the 2.0Turbo. Most impressed with the new NAV system.....very sharp and a few other goodies that are not on my 2014.

Anyway.... A question for drolds1.... or actually anyone that can answer this

The recall you pointed out in another thread https://www.edmunds....ack-frames.html

when I read it carefully seems to be really for a different issue

Ford said certain front driver and passenger seatback assemblies may have been produced with "sub-standard welds joining the seatback recliner mechanism to the seatback frame.

I know in my case it is not the recliner because that continue to function fine

The part they have replaced in the past was this (part #6 in the overall illustration)

https://www.gaudinau...l-dp5z5460763ab

I have to ask this question again.....

When you look at the part number detail they only list it for the 2013/2014.... did they change it for 2015 and beyond because of a problem?

And as a followup.... would the part from a 2015 or beyond fit my car? What part number would that be?

I found this part for the 2015-2016

https://www.gaudinau...WN0cmljLWdhcw==

What struck me very odd about comparing the two parts was that even though they look very similar there is a great difference in the price for the part, the 2015/16 it is more than 10x than the 2013/14 one.

It is a different issue.  I just found it interesting that there are various issues with the seat back frames for that MY and it made me suspicious of the supplier.  Ford does not make the seats.

WRT to the part #'s, I'm confused.  Those are for the plastic seatback panels, not any seat frame parts.  Wasn't your issue with the frame itself?

I have no idea why there's such a disparity in prices between the two different years but I checked it out on fordparts.com and it's consistent.

Got the car back late yesterday afternoon :shift:

They put back in the same part number again DP5Z-5460763-AB. :(  In addition they also replaced the 8 clips that holds the part in, part # W71860-S300. :headscratch:

When I showed then the printouts of the 2013/14 part vs the 2015/15 version they also had no explanation for the price difference nor do they know if it is made of a different material.

They did indicate that if it breaks again, they would check with Lincoln to see if they would authorize the 15/16 part as it is still under warranty.

They did also the seat belt tensioner recall and to my surprise, they did my oil change & service for free and also topped off my gas tank. They said it was on them as the seat repair took so long. :)  :yahoo:  :ford:

BTW here are also some of the pictures they provided of the broken and new parts pointing to the tabs that broke off from the panel :camera:
