Air conditioner isnt acting automatic, won't blow through floor. Was making a harsh almost grinding gear noise for a long time. Going to try pulling the fuse, like can fix temperature doors.

Sounds like a failed blend door actuator.  Common problem with first gen Fusions/MKZs.

heard of anyone fixing it themselves? I've seen the passenger side blend door, but not the mode door.

Oops!  I read your post wrong.  Sorry.

Here's what a Ford electrical tech on on another forum I belong to said:

Not true.  The  mode door actuator only requires the removal of the pedals.  Having said that, it's far more likely that you have a door sticking (usually caused by a foam gasket in the box sliding out of place and gluing the door in one position).  The mode door actuator turns an eccentric wheel that operates 2 separate doors, sounds like the vent door is stuck.  To deal with THAT you will probably have to pull the console, shifter and dash.

I'll try doing the pull fuse/ door calibrate trick, and see if it will return to life tonight.

Boo, recalibrate fails. Maybe I can get at this the same time I change out my center speaker?

That's an 06, but you are probably right, and pulling the dash sounds terrible. If I can see the mode actuator, I'll see if the actuated device turns

The climate control system was essentially the same for 06-12.
