It has happened twice to me in my 2017 3.0 AWD.  First time I had just entered a highway and the mirrors folded.  I was able to push the button and they unfolded.

Second time was this morning after I started my car the mirrors folded back (they weren't folded when I started the car as I leave it unlocked in the garage), I used the button to manually unfold them before backing out of my driveway.

Starting to be a concern for me.  If it happens once more I am going to take it in for service.

Had my service appointment today.

A few days ago I decided to try the push button and after holding it down the mirrors clunked and then started to fold normally. the auto fold and unfold then functioned normally. I told the service advisor what I had done and things were back to normal. They did check for any error codes but found none. They did write up a report about what happened and advised me that should it happen again, if possible, go to the nearest Ford/Lincoln dealer immediately and have them check it out before anything else is done.

At least I have an official dealer's  report documenting the original problem of folding while underway.

There is a software mod you can do. I posted about it in the modification section. Anytime I lock my doors on my 2015, fold-in. Unlock, fold-out. Its a good visual indicator for me that I locked the car.

I came up to a stop and my mirrors folded in. Can only get them out by pulling manually. Locking car will not get them to fold in again. Don't have a chance for a while to take it in. Hoping there was something to do in the computer to reset?  2017 MKC 1 month old. Maybe software update?

This the MKZ forum but for this issue that doesn't really matter.  Will the mirrors unfold with the switch?  If so, try the reset procedure:

To reset the power-fold feature, use the power-folding mirror control to fold and unfold the mirrors. You may hear a loud noise as you reset the power-folding mirrors. This sound is normal

Outside of that, until you can get it to the dealer, I'd try disconnecting the battery for a while.  Maybe that'll reset the system when you reconnect.

Remember to follow the procedure in the manual for the ECU to re-learn fuel and idle trims:

Because your vehicle’s engine is electronically-controlled by a computer, some engine control settings are maintained by power from the battery. Some engine computer settings, like the idle trim and fuel trim strategy, optimize the driveability and performance of the engine. The clock and radio station presets are also maintained in memory by power from the low-voltage battery. These settings are erased when a technician disconnects and connects the low-voltage battery.

To restore the settings, do the following:

Note:  Until you switch the ignition to the on position, you will receive a message in your information display stating that your vehicle is not in park.
  1. Apply the parking brake.
  1. Shift into park (P) or neutral (N).
  1. Switch off all accessories.
  1. Press the brake pedal and start your vehicle.
  1. Run the engine until it reaches normal operating temperature. While the engine is warming up, complete the following: Reset the clock. See Audio Unit.  Reset the power windows bounce-back feature. See Power Windows.  Reset the radio station presets. See Audio Unit.

The reset worked. Thanks.
