Delay on 12V Power Outlets?

MKZMark

Recommended Posts

Hi all, does anyone know how long the 12V power outlets stay on after shutting the car off? After it sits overnight they are off, but they seem to stay on for quite a while. I use a dash cam and they work best with a switched outlet.

Thanks in advance.

The owner's manual seems to indicate that they're always powered, which has been my experience:

Note:  Do not hang any accessory from the accessory plug.
Note:  Do not use the power point over the vehicle capacity of 12 volt DC 180 watts or a fuse may blow.
Note:  Always keep the power point caps closed when not in use.
Do not insert objects other than an accessory plug into the power point. This damages the power point and may blow the fuse.
Run the vehicle for full capacity use of the power point.
To prevent the battery from running out of charge:
  • Do not use the power point longer than necessary when the vehicle is not running.
  • Do not leave devices plugged in overnight or when you park your vehicle for extended periods.

If it is the same as the Fusion, then it seems the default is 1 hour 15 minutes as you can set it to a few different values with FORScan.

I would have to pull the bit from FORScan to see what the default for the MKZ is.

Thanks, that seems about right. The dashcam has a setting to automatically shut down if there is no motion so I'll just use that.
